Ok, my parents have DSL and a belkin router. Not sure on the specs. In my room I get horrible signal strength and constant internet drop. Trying to get a good network going for my laptop and ps3. I was wondering what I should do.

1) Get a new router
2) get a DSL modem w/ router for my room.. Seperate network for myself I guess?
3) Can I add another router in my room and have them linked?

Very new to networking.

Thanks for any help.

If your router is old/crappy (802.11b), you can try to get a new router. If the new router doesn't work, then use one router as an access point. You'll have to get into the firmware, but there should be a setting that makes the router simply pick up a signal and broadcast it. The idea is that if you set one router roughly midway between your room and your parents' router, it will amplify the signal.

Also, if you go this way, I suggest hooking up the new router to the dsl connection.

Hope it helps

hmm the router that amplifies the signal... what needs to be plugged into it? just power?
