router kicking off wireless users

I have a linksys router and it is kicking off all the wireless users but allowing my desktop to stay connected because it has a ethernet cable. why is it kicking off wireless users?
 
internet goes down we have to click repair on the wireless adapter icon thing at bottom for it to reconnect, or restart the pc's.
 
One at a time? All wireless clients at same time?

How many wireless clients?

Any cordless phones on the 2.4 frequency nearby?

Any "heavy" internet traffic?

Latest firmware on the router?

Try a different channel for the wireless...such as 1 or 11?

Is the wireless secured?

i want to also add that we had a router before this, exactly same and it worked FINE. this is a new linksys router IDENTICAL that we had to hook up due to our isp saying our router was bad.
 
2.4 phones will lower your signal. Also microwaves that are on will hurt your signal. If you have a microwave nearby change the signal to 1. I'd return the router and get another just to see if it is the hardware.
 
well the last router we had, the internet was fine for wireless and the phone was eright beside it to..dont make sense

B and G wireless runs on 2.4 GHz frequency. Many (but not all) cordless phones also run on the same 2.4 GHz. If so....picking up the cordless phone and using it while someone is using the wireless....it will impact the wireless user. Other cordless phones run on 5.0, etc...those don't impact it.

As mentioned..microwaves. Even a gas station across the street if they have those speedpass devices on the pumps.

Perhaps a neighbor installed one of those intrusive dual band wireless rigs at their house...do you pickup any neighboring WLANs?

Again, try changing the channel to 1 or 11.

Again...ensure the latest firmware is on the unit.

being its an open network connection, you should actually be more stable then a secured one.

go to your router's web setup page and look for a firmware update tab in there. you might have to go to the manufacturers website to get the latest firmware file.

what router you got?

Go to your router manufactures website, support/download section, select your make/model...refer to latest firmware version available for download. Compare that version number against what it says in your routers web admin...often up on the first page.

Still haven't seen an answer to how many wireless clients you have. If it's an unsecured network...this number may be higher than what you expect (freeloading neighbors kids)

And what type of internet traffic are you running?
