I just dropped the ball and bought an ASUS WL-520GU, 39.99 after MIR. I have no clue how well it works, but I'm just plain sick with D-links dying and dying and dying. I've been through 5 D-link wireless routers over the last 6 years, enough is enough.

Right after I bought it, I realized there was a Linksys WRT54G2 for $48.99. Now I'm thinking if I should exchange it. Any quick suggestions while I trawl the net for reviews? I'm not very knowledgeable in the networking field(basically means I know nothing) and don't know which is better.

Just curious... which D-Link routers were you seeing repeatedly die after only one year? While it's true the older DLink routers were pieces of junk, the same could be said for just about every other older router out there save maybe the WRT54G series (version 4 and earlier).

Then again, judging by your observed budget, just about anything in the sub-$50 range isn't going to last forever. Throw DD-WRT on that ASUS to at least get a little more power from it. :)

While the routers below don't support DD-WRT at present, they are still good recertified units for under or just over $50.

The ASUS is a better choice than the WRT54G2 as the newer releases of WRT54G2 have stripped memory and can only support the micro build of DD-WRT; the Asus has double the flash and double the RAM of the WRT54G2 and a USB port to work with.

The 520gU is a great unit. I just bought one awhile back and with Tomato it is amazing. Perfectly solid, and the USB port makes for a nice backup NAS ;)

The WRT54GL has the same hardware as the older WRT54G v4. Newegg is selling it at $52.69 right now, you have to view the price in your shopping cart. It's a good wireless router and works well with most 3rd party software.
