He's correct, you haven't supplied near enough information obviously. That being said, a switch or AP can _sometimes_ be used as a repeater.

If wireless...some do support it in their firmware If wired, yeah, you can uplink the LAN port to a LAN port of your existing router...and basically use it as a switch. Much more cost effective to simply use a switch in the first place though.
