rounding IDE cables

I have an ATA/100 IDE cable in my hands right now and i really wanna round them by myself but im afraid it might screw the cable up. Is this safe for the cable and what techniques/tricks can i use while performing this cheap mod? BTW do i really have to count 4 or 5 wires each time i cut them? or can i just do them 10 at a time?

I did it to mine, works great, id do every 5 or so, makes it a little nicer to wrap. it will be more round the more you cut. As for being safe, im not sure it totally is, i assume so. I havent had any problems with it

Your only danger of actually messing up the cable is if you cut the wires. You can do how ever many sections you want, but the smaller the section, the better the cable looks.

ok i seem to have run into a very small problem im in the middle of cutting up the cable and i accidently cut into a cable BUT i didnt cut through the wire.....and i can see the wire right now but it doesnt seem to be affected...this means im still ok right?

yea, i've done that a few times. cable still works fine.

if it's a pretty decent slice, and you do it on more than one of them, just electrical tape the individual wires at the slice if you are worried.

but yeah, don't worry about it

do you just wrap rubber tape around the whole thing like a sleeve?

well actually i wrapped red vinyl tape around it but im sure any type of tape would work.

If you need to do another cable, you can actually just fold them/roll them up into a smaller area, then tape them

Just by them. They really are quite cheap at www.svc.com
It certainly isn't worth the risk of cutting yourself, ruining a cable, and getting corrupted data. Spend the $2 or so and buy premade cables.
