I'm going to buy a new game computer soon and one of the options is rounded cables for $25. Is this worth the extra expense?

for $25, no way. I got all of mine (1 IDE, and 1 floppy) for under $10 at newegg.

Rounded cables are good for two things. One, they improve air flow inside your case which can help to keep things cooler in there. Two, they make it look a little bit neater inside if you have a case window or if you like to show off your goods.

You would probably pay about that much if you decided you wanted to add rounded cables after the fact. Whether or not they're worth it now is up to you. Personally I'm happy with my flat cables, but my case temps are already low and nobody but me ever see's the inside of the computer.

I think rounded cables are definitely worth it. They are alot better looking than ribbon cables if nothing else.

You dont have to pay $25 for them though. You can get them for $2.50 or less each at SVC. They come in single and dual IDE cables in a range of lengths and colors. I would suggest 10" rounded cables for the drives closest to the motherboard and 18" for your optical drives up top.

Jesus christ. The cable to connect the drive could end up costing more than the drive itself($20 cdrom or something). You can definately get them cheaper elsewhere.

yea, i agree, buy the pc with regular cables and replace em with rounded cables from newegg for about $10 later :)

I wouldn't buy rounded cables from Newegg, but thats just me. Newegg doesn't offer any other shipping options besides FedEx and you'll get screwed by the shipping cost for cables.

The rounded cables at SVC are only a couple of dollars and are high quality. They come in about any color you could want. Shipping options include USPS Priority and First Class, so shipping is cheap also.

if your talking 3 cables, (flopy, optical, HD) so say they are $5 each, + $5 shipping each, = 30, so if you can get the cables into your case for cheaper than $25 do it, if you dont feel like messing with it, and you have the $10 bucks let them do it, its your call...

but they do help air flow and its easier to re-wire your pc later

to me, they are WORTH IT! When using small cases, its soooo important to have that extra room, and better air flow. They also do a lot better with bending in certain situations as opposed to ribbon cables.

FIRST OFF THOUGH!!! make sure the motherboard your choose does not already come with rounded cables... as that would be a waste of 25$.

A good rounded ATA cable can run around 5$US, and a the same goes with a Floopy cable. So if you get 3 rounded cables (floopy, optical, hard drive), that's about 15$... Plust about 5$ for shipping... and your about the same price as letting them install it. If you don't have any requirements with the colors... or lengths, i would pay them to do it. (especially if your someone who does'nt want to buy a new computer and then go "messing" around in it).

If your computer has a window, and you have a UV light source, there is no dispute!!! LOL,

To sum up, i would never build another computer without rounded cables, they just make my job that much eaiser, and my computer that much better ^_^

~Hope this helps

they are worth replacing but not at that price.I guess it depends on if you have a temp problem. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Here at Newegg they are as cheap as 1.99 depending on what you are looking for.

On a related note, I was going to swap out the IDE cables in my pc to rpunded, then a friend said something like the IDE cable from my Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum to the front panel wasn't a normal IDE cable or something, being as lazy as I am, I didn't test it out but it looks the same to me, anyone know about this? If I'm replacing ribbon cables, I'm going all or none, ya know?

make your own for a buck , all you need is a
razor blade, electrical tape . and an hours time. same the 10 or 20 bucks for 2 80mm fans or cat food or what ever. I would only buy them if I was building a show rig. if you take your time they turn out sweet :)

Regular cables are sometimes better for airflow if they are bent and placed right. Just look inside of any voodoo case, my brother has one and the way they fold and place the cables is so nice that the case has 100% perfect airflow.

Rounded cables are nice, when they fit right. They're ugly and a PITA to work with when they don't.

I had a system where I tried connecting 2 adjacent HDDs with a rounded cable but the top one kept coming loose & crashing my compy 'cuz there was too much tension on the connection.

flat ribbons sometimes work best, you can fold them into a little square and tuck it away some where
