Rough performance comparison chart - CPU / GPU?

I could swear I saw on [H], not too long ago, a bar chart showing the performance of high end Intel and AMD CPUs and nVidia and ATI GPUs, and I thought it was plots of PPD or WUs.

Unable to find this, I went searching for other general benchmarking of performance for each of these, and failed to find anything useful.

Can anyone either point me to that plot, or provide some rough benchmarks for performance from those four main processor classes? (maybe it wasn't in PPD, and was a FLOPS plot instead?) This is for a slightly unrelated project where I am trying to convince others of the potential of parallel processing GPUs over serial processing CPUs.

Any chance anyone has aggregated those into averages or done slightly more rigorous benchmarking than asking the community at large?

Like, say, a nice bar chart of the latest Core2Duo vs. latest Athlon vs. ATI 4800 vs. GTX 280?
 
Bar charts tend not to work for folding.
Depending on which client you are running and the protien your crunching, you can easily get around a 50% difference in PpD from the same hardware.

yes best bang is a Q6600 for cheap 179 or less on the cpu front
8800GT's are best bang for their cost PPD GPU wise currently.

There all the info you need :)

That advice is more useful than any chart you're going to find.
 
Unfortunately, my goal is not cheap folding, so that advice doesn't solve my problem completely:

Is there no benchmarking (sounds like folding is a bad metric) that would help me with this comparison?

It's a good metric but the kicker is that you must use the same WU across all cards to have a valid comparison point. Various WU give various performanc on the same card and that's what Tigerbiten is referring.

Also, you cannot directly compare a CPU folding performance to a GPU or PS3 since the calculation methods is a bit different, so is the science value.
