Rosewill Capstone 450W question.

Would you suggest any other PSUs in the 60-80$ price range?

Preferably w/o rebates. I'm also staying away from OCZ due to having a terrible RMA experience with them recently. I've read the the 450w capstone is just a Super Flower PSU that's been rebranded, and that it can deliver 550w of power at 80+ Silver ratings with no problem.

Thoughts?

It is never a good idea to run a power supply over its intended capacity for any extended period of time, or to buy a power supply for the amount of power it can supply over its rating.

Edit: That 550 watt Hive unit is a good unit, so you should be fine with that. Although, Corsair's customer support cannot be beat.

I kinda like Tsumi's Corsair TX650M recommendation. and there's a 15% off code but it expires today. So it makes it about $77 shipped.

Yeah, went ahead and purchased the TX650M; Thanks, Tsumi!

There's nothing better than the Capstones in that price range from a pure quality standpoint. The only reason I might suggest something else would be if you'd rather have a modular unit, although you'll have to sacrifice some efficiency to get something for a similar cost.

Well, defending your poor purchase isn't going to make the TXM a better choice over Capstone. The Capstone is based on a downscaled version of same SuperFlower platform as the Kingwin LZP-1000, which outdoes the SeaSonic Platinum 1000. The TXM on the other hand isn't anything special. It's just an older CWT design upgraded.

No, it's not.

All the SuperFlower units share the same platform, but with component differences to make them fit for different wattages.

No, it doesn't.

Yes, it does. Significantly lower ripple, better transient response, cheaper and the list goes on. Pretty much the only thing the SeaSonic has over it is it's extremely good regulation. Read the review here.

Went ahead and cancelled my TXM order and ordered the Capstone, thanks for the feedback.
