I'd like to overclock my system. I have a general idea of how to overclock, but I'm not going to make a hundred dollar gamble on it. Can you guys give me links/tips/advice on how to overclock and make my computer faster? I heard you can make it go 3200+ speeds with the right equipment.

Here're my specs:

Athlon XP Barton 2500+
Asus A7N8X Deluxe-E
Corsair 512 Memory PC3200
Radeon 9700 pro

Any help is greatly appreciated :)

A bit of advice. Overclocking is gambling. Any OCer worth thier thermal compound can tell you that.

Ok, a few questions for you.
1. What heat sink do you have.
2. What kind of external (case) cooling do you have. How many fans.
3. What verson of your motherboard do you have 2.0?
4. Do you have reliable powersupply.
5. Is your system up-to-date with BIOS?

A good idea, would be to overclock an old computer (with good cooling of course) just to make sure you know what you're doing. You don't want this:

haha, nice picture there :) to bad no cpu or anythign in it :( now, in addition to what CompMage said, i would like to know 1 more thing... on the cpu there is a black sticker with a bunch of letters and numbers. if you could write those numbers(referd to as "steppings") here, we could help you much more, the stepping will show us more if your multiplier can be changed.. i found overclockign to be very simple... the basic barebones are

1) lower mullti( if possible)
2) raise FSB
(at this point you wont actually be overclocking the cpu since u lowered multi, but u will be finding the max FSB)( if cpu is lkocked, raise voltage first)
3)once max fsb is found, raise multiplier until unstable
4) raise Voltages as nessesary( in conjunction to part 3)
5 once u think your overclock is stable, move onto GPU, download the omega drivers that suit your card the best, and it will include an overclocking utility, and overclock just as you do on ur cpu, except nothing can change voltages, except doing an actual volt mod..my 9700 BBA hits 370/330(gpu/ram) no problems, after that tho, i get errors..i am tempted to volt mod at this point...

with more info i can get alot mroe specific..
