Ok, so my friend is obsessed with RTW, but everytime he tries to play with the newest drivers, there are major video glitches. So he has to revert back to the 66.93 drivers. BUT, everytime he wants to play UT2004 or Vice City, he has to switch back to the latest WHQL'ed drivers from nVidia. He just bought an MSI 6600gt about 2-3 months ago, and it has been that way ever since he got the card.

Anyone else have problems like these? Bad card? Should he RMA it?

Thanks,
p0stal.

try some beta drivers...i know those old drivers are crap with UT2k4...windows restart on desktop... i had that problem with my 68GT ur saying 71.89 doesnt work?

yea, the 71.89 drivers still have major glitches in RTW, but are fine in all of the other games he plays, Vice City, UT2004, Natural Selection. This is with a 6600 GT, not an 6800GT.

I'm going to have him try some WHQL drivers from the Guru3d site. They say they are WHQL'ed, but only work for the 6 series card, so we will give it a whirl.

We RMA'ed his card and checked the serial number against the old one, and we did indeed get a different card, but the glitches are still all there. Do you think it could be the PSU?

can you define glitches? like major stuttering in the campaign map when scrolling around?

Yea, when he scrolls around on the big world map, he gets these kind of graphical "tears" and in the other games (UT2004+a bunch of mods, Vice City, etc.) there are major glitches where there are huge spikes that come "out" of people and stuff like that.

I don't get those sorts of major graphical tears in RO(mod for ut2004). I have a problem with stuttering in the world map when I'm scrolling.

My 9800pro starting getting tears on the battle map, and those spikes you described when it was overheating and on its way out the door.

I haven't seen those sorts of glitches in the 6600GT though.
