I recently install this traffic shaping utility exclusivly made for asus MB's. The idea behind it is to prioritize network traffic so you can play games uninterrupted.

Options included not just internet traffic but local network traffic ass well. I have never really messed with this program, Is it a good idea to have? I am an average gamer are there any cons to running traffic shaping software like this?

Are you planning on gaming while your system is downloading torrents, streaming video, or transferring large files? If not, then I doubt you will see an improvement worth mentioning. Your PC can only prioritize the traffic traveling in its own NIC, not the traffic at the router.

Exactly, remember that your ISP will strip off any QoS tagging that was applied in your LAN but you will still see slight improvements with how traffic is handled on your computers TCP/IP stack.

I never really thought i needed it to be honest. But now that i am using it, man is it awesome. Yes i download alot of torrents and stream media through the network off my pc. This gamefirst software effectivley throttles all that activity so i don't see a negative impact in games.

Its interesting how it works, seems to track network traffic over several days and adjusts it according to my available bandwidth.
