RocketRaid 1144U USB Card

I purchased three of these cards and on all three, there is a bad port:

Card 1: Port 1 does not show up
Card 2: Port 3 does not show up
Card 3: Port 1 does not show up

Did anyone else buy these cards and figure out how to get access to all 4 ports?
Tried in two different motherboards, Intel and Supermicro and in both (Linux or Windows 7 64-bit) only 3 USB device controllers show up?

Thoughts?
 
I am guessing you mean the RocketU 1144A card. From what I remember reading back in an anandtech review, this card had 4 seperate asmedia USB chipsets installed on the one card to increase theoretical bandwidth. It is possible you have an interrupt contention issue. You didn't say what model motherboards you tried, but you can try temporarily turning off anything you are not using (RS-232, Parallel, Sound, Firewire, eSata etc) and see if that makes a difference. It is also possible you just got a batch of bad boards, but this is one thing you can quickly try. BTW, did the same boards have the same missing ports in both motherboards?

Yes.

Yes, with lspci in Linux it only shows 3 of asmedia USB chipsets.

2. Intel DP55KG

But you can try temporarily turning off anything you are not using (RS-232, Parallel, Sound, Firewire, eSata etc) and see if that makes a difference.

This was my hope, but when I contacted Highpoint they said this may be a known issue with these boards: "This issue probably is related to your working platform. Replacing the card, Iwe don't know if that can solve the problem. We have a similiar card (RU1142A)which has a different design (2 input and 2 output) and can be more reliable. Do you want to try that? we can send you a sample board."

Yes.

A cursory glance at the other board shows it has a similar makeup, with 4 seperate asmedia USB chipsets. It has a different layout to accomodate the 2int/2ext port config, and while it may be different electrically I don't know. If it were some sort of incompatibility with the motherboards as Highpoint suggested, I would honestly expect either all the cards to fail in the same way, or at least for which ports didn't work to change randomly (and not always have 3 of 4 working). In addition, 1 of the boards you are testing with is a Dual Xeon with 5520 chipsets, and the other is a desktop board based on the P55 chipset. I wouldn't expect to see a basic card like a USB controller fail in the same way in 2 vastly different boards like this and not have significant problems with MANY other boards, so many that I couldn't imagine they would have passed this card through their internal verification tests.
