I just got my new system put together and after going all over the place about it noticed that theres not alot of information about the rocketfish brand. and the few i found here were ho hum at best. so i built the system in my sig. and another system for a friend a week earlier. I am on an extremely tight budget at the moment and my friend was just to impatient to wait for one ordered. so we both have these rockefish psu's so far there running great. there modular. seems to have good build quaility based on the review i read about the differences between cheap and expensive psu. i will find the link later. there certified as 80+ and according to there boxes are crossfire and sli certified. on the downside the wattage varies between the box and the sticker on the psu it self 600w, 500w, the 2 12v rails have a max wattage of 432w at load with 18 amps each. my friends system is a 890-fx board with a XFX 6870 BE and the 6core Phenom II BE. he has 8 gigs of corsair ram too and hasn't had a problem. with it yet. I plan on using this as a jump off point to see if these rate up. will post back in the future with updates.

Rocketfish is absolute shit. No question about it. It's bestbuy branded junk. Return that crap and buy something good.

That Rocketfish 500W (600W peak) PSU is a decidedly mediocre, if not shitty, Huntkey-made PSU. Huntkey-made PSUs range in quality from complete shit to OK-ish. If you had been willing to wait a week or so, you could have bought a much better-quality PSU for that same price.

That 500W unit, luckily, is one of the OK-ish units. It's just not a very good value at its current Best Buy store price.

The 550w Rocketfish isn't too bad, mine was running F@H on an overclocked i7/6gb/SLI 8800gt/2 HDD rig for over six months and it was stable. The 700w units sucked though, failed like crazy.

Ended up moving it to my AMD X2 rig. Still working fine. Is it high quality? No. But it does work well enough.

Without examining the internals of that PSU and/or testing it properly, it is not possible to say whether or not that PSU is a good one.

Just because you probably haven't seen it, being that you've trusted so much of you and your friends hard earned money to these power supplies:

Getting the BEST BUY on a Power Supply:

Except that Rocketfish no longer offers the 700W model. (Towards the end of its distribution life, some Rocketfish 700W PSUs used the CWT PSH platform instead of the Huntkey platform.) The Dynex "400W", however, is still on the market - and as shitty as ever.

Either way, simple thing to say. Friends don't let friends shop at best buy for computer equipment. And the last thing I want bestbuy to think is that they can keep selling absolute shit and make a killing on their 200-1000% markups.

thx for the link The_Engineer, and your right i hadn't seen it. good read. admittedly i have been worried about the unit since the purchase. as i have always only every used antec psu's with the exception of the one that came in my case on my first computer back in 00" which was an A1 (still have that one too) and the enermax 535 Watt i bought back in 06". I have been out of the loop since 06" (tried the laptop thing) and i'll probably replace it anyway with the XFX 750W Black Edition Modular PSU (P1-750B-CAG9) when i get my new case in a couple weeks. so heres to hoping it holds out till then. as for me and my friend shopping at best buy. believe me i don't like it much either but every other computer parts store has bailed from my town leaving us with a buch of shady stores that open everything you order through them and take out anything thats not the actually unit then hand you the box still opened cause they couldn't be bother to hid the fact that there pilfering your stuff (motherboards with all the jumpers missing or broken caps ). E4gle your right as well a few days after i bought the psu, i ordered my parts and saw a better known psu for the same price. but again this unit hasn't failed and neither has my bud's and he has a higher power draw on his system then i do. but i will caution him to replace it sooner rather than later. now that i'm finally able to go back to work, my budget won't be so tight.

so after reviewing the forums and watching the video by kyle on tekzilla this week i decieded not to take the chance and returned the rocketfish. now i need a 500 watt 80+ certified power supply. and wouldn't you know it the corsair cs600 that met all the requirements isn't available in store anymore. so i now im back to no functional comp. looking at that antec. if i can get it overnighted. almost the same price as the unit itself though, lesson learned. i guess.

In fact, Best Buy does not carry in-store any of the really good-value PSUs at all. The only PSU carried in-store at Best Buy that's even decent is an Antec EarthWatts EA650 - and then, its $100 plus tax price tag there is way too high (it is worth no more than $60, IMHO).

got he antec ordered. paid to overnight it. although now im getting pissed, as fedex has it listed to be delivered monday. and it was bought thursday. wth am i paying for overnight prices if it still takes 3 days.
