rocket raid 100 vs rocket raid 133

so i have to pick between rocket raid 100 and 133 for my KW7 mobo to accomidate the 2 raid0 arrays i had with my KG7-raid mobo.
what is the difference between the 2? my hard drives are 2X 80 gb 7400rpm Western digial drives and 2X 120 Western digital 7400 rpm drives.
both in raid 0
will i be bette roff saveing the $ and getting rocket raid 100 or spending a little more for the rocket raid 133?

I assume you meant 7200 rpm - Go with the 133 - I believe in this case it is talking about ATA100 or ATA133. So if you have ATA133 drives then the 133 is probably where you want to go so you don't bottleneck speeds.

if the highpooint brand name will msake it more stable and less likeley to corrupt, il buy it but if their the same il opt for the cheaper brand

most importantly would a raid array created under highpoint work on a generic ATA 133 raid controller?

i emailed the highpoint tech support, and they failed to answer that question, twice now might i add.. so i could assume that means it is compatable....
since they dont want to loose the sale to a generic.

Ask a question that makes sense and you'd stand a better chance of a useful response. Since I said that I may as well do my best to help you figure out your dillemna.

What exactly do you mean by "Generic" raid controller? Every raid controller has a manufacturer, therefore must have a name.

You can not, to my understanding, change the controller from a highpoint to one from a different manufacturer and expect the data to remain accessable. You probably won't even be able to keep the arrays intact after switching from a highpoint to a highpoint unless the controller chip is identical to whatever your original is.

sorry, about the confusion, i dont know all that much about raid..
by generic i mean a brand like"house brand ATA-133R" or "syba ultra ATA 133 ide raid controller"
i was told by highpoint that if i were to get a rocket raid 100 or 133 i would be bale to still access the current array with data intact, but i am looking to save 40$ by getting a gous brand or other non highpoint controller which are 0nly 20$ instead of 60-65$ which is what highpoint rocket raid 133 is.

I've never seen a "house brand" electronic device, but I've gotta say stay away from it. If I were you I'd go with tha rocket raid 100. You're probably not gonna saturate the 100Mb/s that that thing offers, and even if you did, I'm not sure the PCI bus would let you move any more than that anyway.

Besides, WD drives are only ATA-100 anyways, so you will get no benifit from a 133 raid controller.

And yes even if you have a highpoint controller on the MB you can still use any other brand controller in a PCI slot, they are separate devices and should have no impact on eachother.

Lazn, I don't think you're getting what he said. He wants a PCI riad controller to use because he has a new motherboard without the raid controller onboard. He wants to keep his existing array intact.

Ah, yes, after rereading that mess of postings I see you are right.

Then, he will have problems no matter what raid controller he goes with, to get an array back, it will not only have to be the same brand, but also the exact same chipset.

I know this because I tried to move a raid array from a HighPoint 366R chipset to a Hightpoint 370 chipset.. no go, and those are almost identical.

i caught the order in time and calceled the rocket raid 133, il be getting rocket raid 100.

As a general rule, whoever answers tech support emails is a fucking moron. That has nothing to do with recovering your array. Your KG7's raid controller chip was a highpoint370. according to highpoint's wbsite, the rocketraid100 is a Highpoint370A controller chip. I dont know how/if you'll be able to read your array, but you've got as good a chance with this as anything save another kg-7.

i just picked up a rocket raid 100 from zipzoomfly...
so it should be here in 2 days(free 2nd day fed ex)

The Rocket Raid 133's would have worked, but with no advantage over the 100's you are getting, and the RR100 will have a better chance of finding your exsisting data because the 370 and 370A are very similar.

All in all, you got the right parts, and I hope it works out for you.
