I am building a Gaming / Video editing rig and would like suggestions on a very solid and reliable motherboard and RAM

for a few $ more, why not go with the x1900xt?

I reccommend the a8n-e because its been reccommended to me so many times and I am about to build the same (almost) rig as you.

a8n-e is a pretty solid board. if you wanted some more advanced options and a rock solid board (I have never used one though...) I hear the DFI Lanparty series are good...

a8n-e is pretty good. One thing, though: never, i say NEVER, install the nvidia firewall that comes with the ethernet drivers. Many people are having problems with it(downloads get corrupter, blue screen of death, etc.) and often it will not fully uninstall, which would require you to format your hd.

Doesn't look like that board has a firewire input - I definitely would want that on board - guess I should have mentioned that.

I have no problem with DFI Lanparty boards but I spent some time in the DFI forums about 6 months ago and I don't think anything could be more temperamental than their boards... am I correct?

Any other solid boards?

I know they can be temperamental, but you just have to mess around with some of the bios options to get it stable. its deffinately not a "out of the box" stable board or a beginners board. but, they do have firewire

Temperamental is the word, and getting support at dfi-street without their exactly recommended components is an exercise in futility.

Seeing as you won't be overclocking, might as well stick with an ASUS (just find whichever A8N has firewire) and save yourself the frustration.
