Many a Repetitive Stress Injury has spawned from Guitar Hero, and for those of you who haven’t lost feeling in their fingers yet, you’ll be happy to know Rock Band pricing, and a release date of 2007 has been announced.

First reported on MTV's Multiplayer blog today, the official line is that the PlayStation 2 version will includes the game, one guitar, one microphone and a drum kit; is scheduled for a Dec. 10 release; and will cost $159.99.

It's not too bad of a deal for all that you get, but it's too much to play the game regardless. I don't think sales are going to be as high if you really need all of that just to play the game. Guitar Hero 3, which only really needs the guitar (an attachment for the remote on the Wii version) is so much cheaper and will actually get sales. They actually had a good thing going with it too. Adding in the drum kit takes it over the top. Hopefully they'll be smart and have a separate version with only the game and the guitar add-on, maybe the mic too, for $99.99. The $170 price just ridiculous, I'll be looking for the poor sales once it releases .

Just to note, I said $170 and not $160, I've heard both prices today from multiple sites etc. Either way, $10 doesn't make a difference; it's still too much.

sounds about right. If you figure $99 for just a guitar hero game and $30 per extra peripheral that's just right.

How bout 50 for the game and not forcing people to use a new controller.

Here is a novel idea... how about a kit without a guitar but a microphone and a drum kit? huh? Because most people interested in the game will already have two guitars!

actually, I still want a guitar with it. I have the 360 version of gh2, so I only have a single, wired guitar. I'll be buying gh3 soon, so I'll have 1 wired and 1 wireless for that, then when rock band hits I'll buy that and sell my one wired guitar. I'm sure many other people will be using the game as an upgrade to a wireless controller as well.

As far as I'm aware, this is just the pricing for the full combo. They'll likely be selling the game/individual instruments seperately, much like GH2 and the guitars can be found seperately (shopping online...generally not at stores).
