That's the 1980s action films for ya. For example, of all the pulse rifle and smart gun rounds fired in ALIENS I don't think we saw one mag change in it.

The only single time I remember seeing a magazine being ejected or inserted in Aliens was when Hicks was showing Ripley the gun.

When Ripley goes back into the complex to get Newt, she loads the pulse rifle during her gear up scene.

There is an upgrade motherboard for it (OCP 3.3 if I remember right) that removes the need for the magazine changes via the auto-loader feed.
Very much worth it to get that motherboard.
