I recently bought an evga gtx280 from a user here. Unfortunately he threw out all the stock cooling after he stuck on some ramsinks and a fuzion gfx 2. I added a uni-sink since not everything was covered. Problem is the card is overheating badly. The block was reseated and got a coat of as5 but runs 65-69c on idle. I've been hearing about some cards being defective and I'd like to send it back. Do you think they'd make a fuss over it? I think I may be out of luck here...

ya looks like it...direct quote here.
"Installing third party cooling solutions does not void warranty on our products. Just be sure to keep the original cooling solution as it will have to be on the card if it is ever sent in for RMA. Any physical damage such as burn marks or damaged PCB will void ALL warranties."

You won't be able to send it back. First off the warranty isn't transferrable, and the user you bought
it from wouldn't be able to return without the heat sink. Perhaps it's your wc setup...what rad u runn'n.

it would suck, but maybe you can find someone that has a stock cooler. You may have luck even though you are not the original purchaser; not sure.

If you're running that hot on an idle system I'd say something is wrong with your loop. What are your CPU and GPU temps when the comps been idle for a while?

Is your pump making bad sounds? You probably have big air pockets in your block or rads.

dunno if evga would do the same for you.. but i bought an evga 8800GT off ebay with aftermarket cooling and it was DOA.. called up evga and they said they would rma it even though i didnt have the stock cooling.. usually evga is pretty good about stuff like that.. its always worth a shot..

will try that. By the way, I am in contact with the original owner and he's willing to help.

I'm using a chevy chevette heatercore for my rad. No air pockets, system was properly bled (i have an mcw res to help). Pump is nice and quite (brand new dd5 laing var). I've noticed the cpu temp is high as well. Around 46-50 idle. I'm assuming it's the gpu heating everything up.

If you are using one chevette heater core to cool your Q9550, your nb, and a GTX280, you are woefully under-rad'd. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the Chevette heater core only big enough for one 120mm fan? If so you really need a rad upgrade. Try a MCR320 at the very least to get good temps.
