sent out a pair of SATA drives to Hitachi over a week ago.. they recieved them... but still havent sent any new ones out yet... does this usually take pretty long?

Your situation sounds like the same experience I have had when I have sent Hds for rma to them. I guess they just have a little slower turn around unlike some other companies I have dealt with.

Hitachi (and probably Samsung as well) has the weakest warranty service of the HD makers. For the others (Maxtor, Seagate, and WD) hard drives are by far the biggest or only product they market. If the hard drive business of Maxtor, Seagate, or WD collapsed, that maker would be out of business in no time. Samsung's and Hitachi's HD divisions are but one facet of a large international conglomerate, so they do not have the focus on service of the American makers. This goes a long way to explain why they do not offer advance replacement as well. I realize that this does not make you feel better, but it does (at least in my mind) explain Hitachi's attitude towards warranty service.

Hitachi says to allow up to 2 weeks for RMA turnaround. If I hear too many more stories about poor Hitachi warranty service, they will lose their recommendation(s) in the Buyer's Guide. Many of us gamers can only afford one hard drive, and if(when) it does go down, they are out of action until the maker honors the warranty. Advance replacement is a boon in those situations, and Hitachi doesn't offer it. Any body else been in the same boat as Grain or Wipeout? Anybody had a positive experience with Hitachi RMA? (Not to hijack this thread or anything :p)

not sure on the brand, but MSI has been taking its sweet time with our dual opteron board...so...yeah...

well, yeah that does make alot of sense Doug! and no problems about hijacking... this is rather nice keeping this going then i'll know the companies who NOT to buy from ... anyways only big thing that bugs me is i got a matching pair of drives and wanted to RAID 'em and had nothing but problems since day 1... worse performance with those two in a striped raid than my 120gig PATA maxtor drive.. that make any sense? lol.. had i not got quite the deal i did on them i never would have bought 'em.. figured it would be my first big step to a "nice" gaming system... oh well.. guess what my Abuela(Grandmother) used to say is true.. "you pay for what you get" :D

matsonic is another (bleep) company that bites... but thats just my opinion..
