rivets

Yesterday i thought.... I want to do a good wiring job on my Sonata II; then discovered that even the back panel it riveted, everything has rivets(stupid i might be, but i though at least the back would be removable urgh).....

So is there a tool to remove rivets, or i drill them out?
And i'll also needs a "thing" to put in new rivet. I've seen something that looks like pliers, is it the best choice/only? Is there different size of rivets(guess so)?

Well now i feel stupid asking you this but i doubt the guy at my hardware store would know what size of rivets cases use hehe

Yes you need to drill them out (I use a 1/8" drill bit)
To replace them I would use 1/8" alum rivets, Short (they come in short med and long)

And you need a pop rivet tool to install them.

Dependant on the case actually, i think 1/8" are most common but I pulled apart an Antec SoHo case and had 2 different sizes to them, (sorry i can't remember the dimentions at this point.)

as far as the rivet 'gun' you have a couple of choices; the manual are fairly cheap and easy to use, though if you are going to be painting the parts you are tearing apart watch for the hop when you rivet them back inplace, (when the rivet snaps loose from the shaft,) it could cause some scratching.

if you have an air compressor they also make air fired versions... a bit more expensive.

whichever you get make sure it has enough size options so you don't have to go out and buy a second one.

Agreement on all the above.

All you want to do is drill through the top of the rivet with the 1/8" drill bit. Once the heads pops off
and spins with the bit you should be good to go.

A manual pop rivet gun should serve you nicely. No need to pay for a power tool for such a small job IMO.

Puch the shaft through a piece of 3/4" masking tap. If the tool hops, it lands on the tape instead of the paint.
