riven (myst 2) in xp

first, i wasn't sure if this was os or games

anyway, i'm having a helluva time trying to get riven to run on my main rig. it outright doesn't start unless i have the 98 compatibility on. ok that's fine. but when i'm in the game, there's no audio when it's playing a movie/animation, only background noise. could this be a quicktime issue? i'd rather not have to actually install quicktime, but if it's necessary. any advice welcome.

btw, for the time being, i actually installed windows 98 (i still have an original cd) on a p3 500 i have on a 540mb hard drive no less, so i guess it will be ok if i can't get it working in xp but i think it's more a quicktime than xp problem.

If it asked you to install Quicktime, I'd listen. There is nothing wrong with Quicktime- Its not spyware, it doesn't take over your media player, etc. If Quicktime was mentioned in setup, it was for a reason.
