I have the latest rivatuner edition that is supposed to support the 8800gt, but it wont control the fan speed the way it did with my gts, I have to open the hardware monitor with all the graphs and then it will set the fan on high at the temp that i set it to, but when i close it the fan stays the same.

Yea mine does the same thing. I have to keep the graph window open for it to change with temps. Annoying..

Use the red record button bottom L corner.

I set up fan profiles in rivatuner for the first time yesterday and it seems to work. The fan speed adjusts based on the gpu temperature. Here is the guide I used.

Yep I used the same guide, but you have to leave open the temperature graph display for it to work.

I just set mine to 50% all the time. Works even after you close Rivatuner. Not the best option, but it keeps my overclocked card in the 50s idle and mid 70s load. Should be sufficient until a good aftermarket cooler comes out.
