I've been thinking about how this was going to affect a lot of things like this. I know there are a lot of folders in Texas and wasn't sure how many would be directly affected by the hurricane. Hopefully, it will fizzle a lot before it hits and/or takes another path where it won't do as much damage.

But seriously, good luck to you. The worst thing we get here in Indiana is the occasional thunderstorm. My roommate's parents evacuated out of Houston so hope you dont have to do the same.

I sure hope so, as my company's website is hosted at The Planet's site as well. I don't think power will be a problem though. They have enough power regulation and generation equipment there to run indefinately without city power.

Damnit, that would mean I would have to register and I'm really lazy.
Besides, unless they let us have our own section, moderators and admins, I don't think it would work very well. There is just no way they would be able to put up with mary if she posted there on a regular basis.
We left Houston last night at about 7:45 pm. Most of the distance, traffc wasn't too bad, but we were stuck in a 25-mile traffic jam for 4.5 hours. We were lucky--we left from the NE side of town and took a non-official-evacuation route (Hwy 59) We have other friends that left from the same place at 3:30 this morning, and they have yet to arrive (it's normally a 3 hour drive to where we are now). We're just happy to be here, relatively safe. The eye is supposed to go right over my house. I'm just hoping the wind blows over the tall, ugly pine tree in our front yard--towards the street. I'm pretty sure the tree's toast--I just hope it falls away from our house.

It took them 13 of those hours to go 75 of those miles--about 3 times as long for three times the distance we experienced last night. I can only hope the traffic situation gets better before tomorrow night. The traffic isn't really anybody's fault--not the government's, not the fleeing people's--it's just that the highway system is not designed to carry this type of load. Because it almost never does. I have been impressed with how civil and calm everybody has been.

We've been watching the news quite a bit (morbid curiosity, wanting to see if our houses survived ), and it sounds like the city will have better procedures in place for opening up more lanes next time.
That said, we just found out that our house now has power, so we'll be heading back soon. Open all the windows to air out the house, turn on the electricity, turn on the gas, turn on the water, and we'll be good to go. Our neighbor who stayed said we got off with no damage, so we're grateful for that blessing. I'll be able to get my desktop up and folding (yes, it is a top priority, right after the A/C).

I came back yesterday and got most of my folders back up and running now. It took me 19.5 hours to go about 160 miles to College Station from the nasa area where I live. The next time I will have some backroad routes planned. I had a full tank of gas, and it lasted the entire way, with 1/8 to spare.
The damage was minimal. Nothing worse than a t-storm here in clear lake. I'm sure it's worse a bit further east.
