Ripped DVDs load slow

So, I just upgraded to a SSD for my OS Drive, and after reinstalling Windows, I notice it now takes about 40 seconds for a ripped DVD to start playing. This was not the case before. The only thing I really change was going from IDE to AHCI mode. Any ideas what is wrong or how to fix it? Going to record to some more TV and see if it gives me problems too, although currently it does not affect a short 15min segment. Specs of HTPC are below.

Phenom II X4
MSI 880GM
Radeon 4250 IGP
OCZ Vertex Plus 60GB OS Drive
Samsung 2TB 5900RPM drive for storing everything
Samsung Blu-Ray Drive
2x4GB GSkill Ram
Win7 64bit

DVDs were ripped as VIDEO_TS files. I tested DVDs ripped before and after the SSD was installed. They play fine once started, but take a while to start up. The hard drive light is on constantly during this period. I also notice if I minimize WMC, it looks like it does the same thing.

Just DVD Library in WMC. Oh, and a 2 hour+ movie recorded on TV doesn't have this issue.

Any idea if having AHCI mode on could possibly be having some effect on this?

Try viewing the ripped DVD's in VLC Player and see if you still have the same problem.

How did you make the change from IDE to AHCI mode? When I did this under Win764 it required an tweak to the OS that I had to get my the MS website, IIRC. Otherwise, Win7 would not boot after making the switch in the BIOS. So, you did this, right?

I set it up as AHCI and reinstalled Win7 since I got a new OS Drive. But the DVDs are stored on the same 2TB drive secondary HDD.

Also tried it using PowerDVD and it loads fine. However, with Windows Media Player it loads slow. So I am thinking there is some kind of weird validation thing that Windows may be doing before the DVD plays. Because the hard drive is being access during this delayed period. I also remember them issuing an Office update where Excel files were validated it made them take a lot longer to load up. Not really sure how to confirm this though.
