I left my computer on last night updating some stuff and came back to find it locked in the posting process. Took a look inside my tower and noticed that the CPU fan wasn't spinning. I rebooted, CPU fan = no spin. So I unplug cpu fan lead and plugged it into the sys_fan power slot next to cpu_fan, and it starts spinning. Put it back into cpu_fan, no post. What's going on?

I think those are the only relevant stats

okay does the computer post when the fan is plugged into the sys_fan pin.

what size fan is it? many motherboard fan headers will not support a 120mm fan. the load on them is too much and it will burn out the header.

this could be the issue here.

my suggestion is that you get a 4pin molex to a 3 pin fan adapter.

no, it doesn't post while plugged into the sys_fan pin.

its just a stock cpu fan that came w/ my heatsink. 80mm i think?

Just for clarification, the system will boot up fully without the CPU fan plugged in at all?

no. it won't post and i think its because my cpu fan isn't going. some kind of protective measure...

EDIT:

ok. i just unplugged, then replugged it back into the cpu_fan header, and now its working fine. weird. problem solved i guess
