I posted this in the General hardware thread earlier but have had any responses back yet so i throw out the the Guru's of the [H]orde:cool:

Just to add an update, the machine has now been running for 6 hours surfing/folding on the GPU and some light gaming with no glitches so wft is wrong?

The problem is most likely either a short in the case, or a motherboard problem. A Sempron isn't going to draw as much power and stress the motherboard as much as a Phenom II x6 1090T does. It's rare that a CPU goes bad by itself. Usually in cases like this where all the usual suspects have been checked, the motherboard is typically the problem, not the CPU.
 
Check for a short in the case like suggested (try running the board in another case or open air)if it still has issues then I would be willing to place a bet on faulty motherboard.

'cause only Intel has the most PPD per die!
