hi there!

i have searched the web, this and other forums about my problem, have had an expensive phone call to the hotline and emailed them (-> Sierra) ... that was the solution which i've got from the hotliner :-(( ... i have not yet an answer from the support (about 48h) except the confirmation ...

@ mods: pls move the post if it not belongs in this section of the forum ... i have no idea where to post (game, monitor, graphic cards ...). sorry.

Problem: i can't get any higher resolution as 1024 x 768 and thats absolut not exceptable with my system. I have not any problems with other games like d3, hl2, painkiller, farcry, ut2k4 run these with 16x12 and highest settings ...

i used newest drivers, clean installation ..................:
forceware 66.93 and the newest display driver from iiyama
-> driver settings: single monitor and the driver displays the correct name of my monitor

my own workaround:
when i deinstall the monitor and then go again (or restart the system) to the graphic cards panel a dialog came up and aks for install the monitor-driver again ... then i reselect it and accept the typical message-window for unsigned drivers ... after that the same dialog (asking me about the driver) comes again ... then i have to cancel this dialog (when i select it again the driver is installed correct and i can't use higher res in the game!)
-> the driver is now not really installed (driver version and so on is all unknown in the driver-panel)

after that very annoying procedure i can go to the game and select the 16x12 and paly it without any problems ... !!

so when i go out and restart the system the dialog for installing the monitor driver comes again and i install it correctly ... now the driver-panel shows the manufactor and the driver version -> when i play it again the game has the old res 16x12 !!! fine !! ...

BUT when i play another game like d3 and go again to riddick i have the same problem .. and have to do the f****** procedure again.

i'am very thankfull for any help i can get from you !!!

thanks for reading

I run Riddick at 1280x1024 on my 9800 XT and it is pretty smooth so there is no reason you shouldn't be able to run it on a 6800 GT. I'm getting a BFG 6800 GT O/C for Christmas so I will let you know if I have any problems running it.

when i do the very annoying "uninstall/pseudo-reinstall"-procedure as described above i can play it very very smooth at 16x12 ... but the time i start another game like d3 or hl2 i have to redo the procedure ...

... i think it is a monitor-driver poblem, 'cause a lot of users have this problem too, when they have not install a driver for the monitor and use the win-standard monitor driver

... but i have the driver installed properly and the monitor is correctly shown in nvidia-disply-manager ....

so i think there is a test-routine in the game that looks at the monitor driver to check the possible resolutions ... but it seems that it doesn't work with the iiyama driver for my monitor :-(((

hope they will fix it in a patch or anyone else here can help me with that ...

the support emailed me back with the solution to turn off FSAA in the driver settins and set it to application-controled ... but that was the setting all the time, so it is not a solution for my problem ... even all other settings i have tried don't work .....

Not to derail the thread but Riddick is out? I've never heard anything about it but I saw a screenshot somewhere and I was interested in it. Is it a good game? Screenshots I saw looked insanely nice.

it is one of the best 3d games i have ever played ... it is like d3 with a great story, nice interaction and the "vin-diesel" coolness ;-) ... it has no problems to mess with d3, hl2, farcry ... aboslutley none ... perhpas it is even better than those !!! ... thats why i make the stress to get it running ...

"WHEN" it runs (@16x12) the graphics are very smooth and seems to be faster as d3 (no vsync problems and no laggs by walking) and the shadows are as good as they are in d3 ... perhaps even better ...

it is not just a shooter ... it has the complete story before the movie "pitch black" !! ... and thats very nice ... i hope it will come on cinema too ;-))

i haven't heard from the pc-version ... only know it on xbox and find it nice .. but few days ago i saw it at a local computer store and buy it after the shop man told me that it is great and he played it all the night and cant get his eyes open ;-))

it is a great game!! when they only get this F***** problem fixed! !

I can only get away with 1280*1024 and I leave textures on high but also PS2.0... they also have 2.0+ and 2.0++ in the advanced menu, whatever the hell that is supposed to mean. I kinda get where they are going. PS2.0 is only suggested for nVida 6's and future cards so likely people with lesser cards getting the res you are has this lowered defaultly. I guess maybe I'll try your hack workaround.

According to [H] we can't play 1600*1200 in NFSU2 either.... maybe new drivers or patches will help but at this point in time 1600*1200 is not a given.
