i dont know what wrong with my pc, but my raided drives keep dying all the time. Everything else is perfectly fine in the entire system. The OC is fine, the Raptor (OS drive) is fine. but the 500GB WD drives keep dying on me. they are connected to a Promise EX8350, im thinking of buying new drives and a new controller. one just died, one died last month.

I would think the PSU is messed up, but everything else seems to work fine, and its a Seasonic 700 watt psu, its a good one.

Are you sure the drives are dying? If they are normal WD drives (Caviar Blue/Black/GP) and not the raid edition (RE) then they are just dropping out of the array thanks to TLER. If thats the case then download the WD TLER tool and set the seconds to 7. Here is wikipedia entry about it.

Well first IMO promise sucks...so i would get a new RAID card anyways.

But I dont think your drives are dying.
IF they are not turning back on even if connected to a jbod mobo port.....then buy a new PSU ASAP.
IF they are just not working in the R5 array....then its TLER(most likely) or a compatibility issue(not likely).

no, the drives are 100% dead, from SMART failures, to clicking noises to various other things. They have not dropped out due to TLER as far as i know. some drives have bad sectors, the recent one cant even be connected to the motherboard driectly. well it can, and it passes smart, but the disk manager couldnt format it, and then it dropped from it so now its not recognized. i would say that thats a dead drive.
these are caviar RE2 drives - 5 year warranties. i know that when they worked, they worked for 2 years without much oh a hick up.

I was also thinking of the Perc 6, since that has RAID 6 capabilities.

I can't imagine that your raid controller would be killing your hard drives. You probably either have bad luck or power issues. Unless your array is getting hit super hard your promise controller should be fine. It's a low end controller so you wont see the performance you would from a areca but I'm guessing it's just spare storage space so that shouldn't matter much.

as much as i dont want to believe that my seasonic is killing the drives, im ordering an antec PSU just in case to test it out... i mean this much bad luck with drives is kind of weird.

yeah, its just storage, but i do download torrents to it on a regular basis. my ratio for anime is pretty good for some rare shows.

I run plenty of drives 24/7 and constant read/writes.....they shouldnt be dying like that.

You either have the shittiest luck ever or something else is going on.
