I've posted this in jonnyguru forums but response is slow...

Since my thermaltake 480W butterfly psu died, I decided it was a good idea to rip out the two fans from it..snip snip snip.

Originally the power supply came with an external "X-Blower", controlled by an aluminum speed control panel with 2 main “Tt” knob, which also controlled the power supply exhaust fan. These two fans both have connections for the fan speed control panel.

The psu intake fan I managed to wire on a connector and is working, but without speed control (I taped off the third wire). The exhaust fan has three red, two black and a yellow wire coming out of it. The yellow and black wire goes to a three pin connector, two of the red ones go to the fan control, and the last two wires red and black, well I snipped them from the power supply. I don't know what these last two do and the unit will not power up.

Sorry I don't have pics at the moment, any idea how much power (3V or 5V) and in what configuration I would need to make this fan work?
 
Anyway red and black is power, red and red together is rheostat, but what does yellow and black do? these last two are on a three pin connector, middle wire slot empty. My idea is to hook up everything my motherboard can't do, such as case fans (in/out) and hard drive fan to a programmable rheobus. My old case fans are getting noisy.

Where should I put the smartfan, in or out? This thing has some serious tourque.
