Sometime last year I was looking to purchase an LCD but passed the VP191B cause the specs were 25ms, with 600:1 contrast etc. I just checked newegg, and then after, the viewsonic site, and I realised the VP191B is now 16ms, 700:1 contrast, 170 deg horiz and vert viewing angle.

Has anyone used one of the new VP191Bs is it any better than the old one? Is the viewing angle really any better than other 16ms LCDs, contrast really seem like anything close 700:1 etc?

Thanks

the VP912B is a 12ms 19"... thast what I plan on getting to replace my 17" VP171s.

Ive had two... the 21" graphics series CRT and my VP171s LCD and both have been great with great picture quality.

The VP191 is going to 8ms. The new monitors are supposed to ship sometime this month.

Thanks for all the input.

belfert, will the viewing angle/contrast ratio be similar to the 170/170, 700:1 or will go down to the VP912 specs? Will it get the matte glossy coating the VP912 has?

Thanks

It will go down.

Specs should be in a press release at viewsonic.com.

Thanks for all the input, I still have a question though, response time aside(16ms is enough for me), how does the vertical viewing angle, contrast, backlight uniformity and general image quality as well as the matte finish compare between the vp191b and the vp912b?

Hope this hasnt been asked too much already. Thanks.

It seems as though the VP191b isnt getting the specs of the VP912b but new specs all together. I emailed them about the confusion, and they sent me the following reply:

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for contacting ViewSonic Technical Support.

The correct specifications for the VP191B are as provided on the link you provided

http://www.viewsonic.com/pdf/VP191b_DS_lo_1204.pdf,

Please note that this specifications are for the latest model in this series, if in doubt please call ViewSonic with the serial number for clarification.

I decided to copy specs from the pdf:

LCD PANEL Type 19" color TFT active matrix SXGA LCD
Display Area 14.8" (horizontal) x 11.9" (vertical); 19.0" diagonal
Optimum Resolution 1280x1024
Contrast Ratio 800:1 (typ)
Viewing Angles 170° horizontal, 170° vertical @ contrast ratio >10
Response Time 8ms (gray-to-gray); 20ms (typ)
Brightness 250 cd/m2 (typ)
Glass Surface Anti-glare

Not sure if this is the same as the 16ms on sale now. Seems as though the new panel gets the matte finish as well (Glass Surface Anti-glare).

This is TOTALLY beyond my understanding.

It is by far the most rediculous thing I've heard - a company that releases 3 different monitors under the same model name!

So we have: VP191b which is 25ms, VP191b which is 16ms and now VP191b which is 8ms for gray and 20ms typical.

Totally idiotic. I have no idea how to find out if the local importer here in Israel carries the new model or not. Hell, I can't even tell if it's the 16ms or the 25ms...!

Why on earth are they doing that??

I totally agree. I just recieved a reply from www.tigerdirect.com and they tell me their merchandise isnt stored at or shipped from their present location so there is no way of telling which revision it is either. The revision can be told by the serial #. If you can find out what the serial # is, you can call Viewsonic and ask them which revision has that serial #. You might be able to find out which parts of the serial # indicate what online, I had seen a site explain the VP171B vs VP171B-2 serial #, but havent seen any yet for the VP191B.

The good news is that the new one is actually called VP191B-2, the bad news is that we might be stuck with a mix of them under the label of VP191B from certain retailers till the change in name and description filters through the system.

Of course, I don't know if its 2 revisions or 3 revisions, as some retailers could be calling the 8ms for gray and 20ms typical 16ms by using some calculation in an attempt to simplify the numbers, or their really could be 3 revisons, 25ms, 16ms and 8ms.

One thing I can tell you with one of the responses I recieved from Viewsonic is that its an 8 bit panel and the pdf had 160 viewing angle in one section and 170 viewing angle in another section. But the rep confirmed its 170H/170V.

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for contacting ViewSonic Technical Support.

This is in reference to the newer VP191B-2.
This display is the 8 =bit panel and i have confimed the degree of the Viewing angle it is Horizontal = 170 Degrees, Vertical = 170 Degrees.

I just bought a vp191, how am i suppose to know which model i have? on the back of the screen it says VLCDS25973-2W , can anyone confirm that this is the 16ms version of the vp191? I have a feeling the company i bought this from sent me a 25ms model even though they listed the specs as 16ms
