Reviewers Reporting Frame Rate Problems With 'CoD: Ghosts' On PS4

Polygons Review (updated today). Please don't shoot the messenger:

They gave the 360, PS3 and PS4 versions a 6.5 each, while the Xbox One version got a 7.

People ignoring the fact are just plain Naive. I have seen on neogaf, postings of at least 5 reviews stating directly that the PS4 suffers more frame rate issues than the XBox one, including game informer, and IGN

lol console players gotta deal with console ports now doesn't get any funnier than this. Shipping broken games, day 1 patches coming lol.

If you can increase the resolution from 720p to 1080p by just a patch then you can easily fix any stuttering issues you may have.

The PS4 and One are so much like PC's that any improvements you can make to a PC game you can make to these consoles.

Apparently the issue is because the frame rate is too high according to Digital foundry.....

Thread backfire indeed.

Gotta wonder if Polygon will rectify the score, since not only is it +125% pixels than the XB1 but the issue is that it is drawing too many frames!

How the fuck do you accidentally ship in the wrong resolution? Is the next CoD going to ship without sound?

Console player, OMG I have never experienced this higher than 60fps before there must be something wrong. What is this?

Sorry I don't buy it, are they suggesting that randomly at certain times vsync just breaks? And they are making the ridiculous claim that its a worse problem to go over 60fps than it is to be under?

CoD never runs with VSync on consoles to avoid input lag issues.

And it is a matter of perspective, depends how much higher it goes.... but all they need to do is just add a base MaxFramerate command somewhere.

Then I don't see how this is any different than the millions that run without vsync on 60 hz monitors on the PC. Many do and like it. IMO something else has to be going on. Did frame rates never ever go above 60 on the last gen? Or more importantly why are people saying things that make no sense. Most complain of the problem during action or firefights when most people see a drop in frame rates not an increase.

Micro stutter? It is AMD and in the PC the only way to fix it was force 59fps with vsync...

Hmmm

Maybe im missing something, But i have yet to see any Framerate issues in MP with COD Ghosts.

I have but sometimes its hard to separate whether its a frame drop or a bit of lag, my wireless set up is pretty spotty in my room, i got a range extender and it seems to have improved it rather significantly but i still get spikes

Digital Foundry did a Ghost 720p v. 1080p. It did show that 1080p version had frame rate drops, but it was like 5 fps dips. I didn't see anything that would be really noticeable. The 720p version was steady 60.

Killzone MP has dramatic drops in frame rate , sometimes to around like 20 fps or so but its very brief.

COD : Ghosts on the PS4 is fine. The frame drops are rare. But if your an MLG "pro" player then I guess you would prefer nothing but solid 60 fps.

I think that both Microsoft and Sony are having a problem due to their dated shit GPUs in these systems, underpowered from the start.

I draw this conclusion from CoD, which looks like a 360 title on all platforms, running like shit. Even on PCs? Mm... don't think that's the problem here. The problem is brain drain.

Btw this is the final take from an actual self admitted "Call of Duty Dudebro" from his experience with both consoles and the game at hand.

Nice thread, also Digital Foundry found out that the game was actually running much higher than the reported 60fps therefore causing the problems stated.

Not sure if that could be said about the Xbox one.

I'm lost how can cod running over 60 fps cause any issues?

It cases a frame hitch basically because Infinity Ward are terrible at designing an engine.

This entire issue is being caused because they rushed COD : Ghosts for the launch. Just like virtually every other launch title. I'm sure they could have got their ugly as shit engine working at 1080p 60fps on the Xbox One as well , its nowhere near as demanding on BF4's engine is.

Ahh I see, makes me wonder why they didn't use a frame rate limiter.

Personally this issue seems quite overstated to me. I played through the entire campaign and to level 7 in the multiplayer and I only noticed slowdowns a couple tomes. I swear I remember much worse performance on previous COD games on the Xbox 360.

Also the multiplayer lobbies are way way more stable than previous COD games on the 360 where getting kicked out of the lobbies was a routine experience. Also, I never once got the dreaded "migrating hosts" message during a game. I don't know if they totally got rid of that and are using dedicated servers instead of P2P or what but its way better. I've also seen way less in game lags, stutters etc.

As for the experience... it's more of the same with some tweaks and new maps. COD has never been my favorite multiplayer game and this one is no different but imho it plays very well.

As for day one patch complaints. I can appreciate and agree that it sucks to be shipping an unfinished game but man the new consoles make it so easy to get away with all the background downloading and patching while in standby. I was still able to play the SP while the patch downloaded. Also for future patches, its nice not having to wait to download and install patches when you want to get in and blast anything that moves ASAP, the way this was handled on the 360 sucked, the PS3 started to help by waking up at night, the PS4 and I presume Xbox one, I don't have an Xbox one to base this on) pretty much eliminated this issue.

By the way, to be clear, I am talking about playing COD Ghosts on the PS4 connected to a 1080p display.

Try out Ground War. The issue is way more obvious there. I don't understand why Activision hasn't patched this yet. Simply limit the FPS to 60 and move on. I guess it just shows how shitty the engine is.

Yeap, the saddest part is that as notted, the base quake engine has the freaking frame limitting command >.<

And on PC it is way waaaaaaaaaaaaay worse, which is why i haven't bought my guilty pleasure of terrible bombastic action.

1600x1200 2xMSAA and not even a freaking Titan can run it at 60fps on pc?... that is just wrong, the graphics aren't even close to being that heavy IMHO, specially when you account that most characters don't even generate shadows.

As a comparison here are Black Ops II benchmarks:

Patch now out for Ghost. Is the performance improved?

Only for when players spam stuff , the frame rate issue for that is fixed. The patch is mainly for spawn point fixes and balancing.

I have a feeling though that a performance fix is coming for the frame rate issue. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

Any patch notes I can read?
