I am replacing my current rig and I am looking for feedback on the components I am selecting:

Inel Core i7-6700 3.4ghz w/ HT (4.0 Turbo) - 8MB L3 Cache
850 Watt EVGA SuperNova PS
ASUS Z170M-Plus - Intel Z170 Chipset MB
Phanteks Low Profile CPU Cooler - PH-TC12LS
16GB of RAM - Crucial Ballistix DDR4-2400 Mhz CAS 16 latency
GTX 1070 SC - 8GB by EVGA
512GB Samsung 950 PROS PCIe 3.0 SSD
3TB Standard SATA Drive
16x Blu-Ray Burner

Thank you in advance for the feedback.

Looks okay.. though what box is that going in? The MB is a mini ATX, right? The videocard is 10.5" long while the MB is 9.6" at it's longest.

I am looking at a few cases, but a mATX case. The one I have in mind is 19'' deep - 7'' wide - and 15'' wide. Should fit the card. I don't have a ton of space in the desk I have. Trying to avoid a monster case. As it sits with a case this size I only have 3.5 inches on the side and 5 inches on top. Open front and rear of the desk. The case has a bottom intake and a top exhaust with a side fan.

Should be nice!

First, are you going to overclock? If so, the 6700k is the CPU you want, not the bare 6700. Even if you're not going to overclock, the base clock on the 6700k is 4 Ghz so it may be worth considering.

Comment on the motherboard - looks decent, but it's not USB 3.1. Maybe that matters, maybe that doesn't, but it's not a huge jump in money to pick up the feature. I own the Z170MX Gaming 5 by Gigabyte (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128844) which is just a few dollars more. The onboard audio is a bit better on the Gigabyte as well, though I prefer the networking on the Asus.

If you're going for small, you can pick up one of the tiny GTX 1070 cards - the Gigabyte GV-N1070IXOC-8GD is the one I've looked at. It's tiny and though the clocks are lower, it's really not a large difference. I own full size 1070 cards, but I very nearly pulled the trigger on the ITX one.

Lastly, unless you are getting some kind of a super deal on that power supply or something, or have eventual plans to more than double the system's current power draw, an 850W power supply is overkill. My system, running the z170mx Gaming 5 and the 6700k and TWO GTX 1070s, along with 2 SSDs and 2 mechanical drives, hums along quite happily on a 650W power supply.

I don't plan to over clock. Any good reasons to get a MB with USB 3.1? I know it faster and provides more power, but most MBs only seem to have one 3.1 port.

I always out in a bigger supply for future projects, but maybe 850 is overkill.

It's just future-proofing on the 3.1. I don't know of anything that uses it right now and actually takes advantage of the bandwidth aside from external SSD enclosures, but if it's a cheap option to move to, then why not?

Also, if you're not going to overclock, you can consider the entire line of H170 motherboards as well, since overclocking and SLI support are the main differentiating features between the H170 and Z170 series.

You should buy your parts before Trump puts that 35% tariff on imports coming from China :p Do your part and make America great again buy all your parts domestic

God Bless America

Wait just a few more days (Nov. 11th) and buy the 960 Pro instead. Just about the same price with much better performance due to NVMe!
Stick with the 850 power supply. Max efficiency on most power supplies is at 50% load!

The 960 EVO or 960 PRO looks like a good thing to wait on for sure. As for the power supply, jrweis has a bit of a point - power supplies are not at their most efficient at maximum load. That said, in HardOCP's review of one of the 1070 cards, the total system draw at the wall on an overclocked 6700k with the 1070 also overclocked was below 300W, and that was at maximum load during stress testing. So you'll likely be below that 50% load mark using any decent 600W PSU or better :)

If you sign up for an account at Samsung.com you can get a coupon code good for 10% your first order.
Just pre-ordered a 960 Pro 512gb for $296.99!

There is a Asus MB I like that has USB 3.1, but t also supports SLI. I don't plan to run two graphics cards. My current box had SLI and I ended up removing it when i upgraded my card. The other MB i Asus s Maximus Gene VIIi. I would like to stick with Asus as I have always had a great experience with their MBs.

If you don't plan on over clocking or SLI then yes a 850w power supply is total over kill. I would go with a good 600w so you be in the sweet spot of efficiency.

Get whatever mobo you like, and I certainly understand brand loyalty even if I don't practice it much myself! I just popped over to Newegg, and the Maximus Gene VIII looks like a lovely board, though a tad expensive. Given what you stated as your goals for the system and lack of overclocking and SLI, you could consider the H170 PRO GAMING if you want. It's super on-sale right now ($90 after MIR) and has USB 3.1 (two ports) as well as your standard M2 slot and such. It's *not* a mATX board though, so be careful with that bit if you've already got a mATX case selected.
