Reverse ATX & heat pipes

Does it matter with the way that heat pipes perform, if a mobo is mounted reverse, or upsidedown? Like say in a Lian-Li 1200, or in a future case mod I plan to reverse the ATX? I was wondering about mobo heat pipes as well cpu coolers.

I believe it does matter with heatpipes since the substance inside the heatpipe is supposed to transfer states from liquid to gas and back, then be able to flow back down to where it would get heated back up at. Though you should probably check with the heatpipe's manufacturer just to make sure.

So if I mount said mobo upside down, the fins will be uder the chipset. does that matter because you wolld figure heat usualy needs to go up to get to the fins for cooling . But on cpu coolers the work sideways .

No. This is a myth caused by a few bad motherboards and cheap "import" heatpipes.

Most, if not all, heatpipes have a "wick" in the middle that will bring the liquid coolant back to the hot side.
