Hello Everyone,

For one reason or another I have fallen out of touch with computers, in particular
the different types of cpu cores (athlon). Anywho.. A few years ago I bought a
athlon MP 1600+ at best I could get it up to 1.55GHz. Not so great, so I had
given up on overclocking for awhile until...

I bought notebook with an interchangeable socket A. It has inside it.. a athlon xp M
1600. I have purchased a mobile xp 2400 to put in the notebook cause I need
the extra performance there. So im left with the chip that comes out of it...

- Basicaly I am wondering if the mobile 1600 will OC better than a desktop MP 1600?

- And if a athlon mobile 1600 OCs well, what kind of numbers can I look forward to?

If memory serves right. an older MP 1600 is a palimino core? and that a mobile 1600 is a tbred core? They both have the same amount of cache. Sorry for the long post, hope you guys n' gals can help.

Thanks,
Jon

You might want to check over the specs of the original chip - I have an averatec laptop which is supposed to be a 25watt ultra-low-voltage variety you won't easily find online. Pull off the heatsink and research the stepping.

The package is socket A standard size 45 watt version. I know its
compadible. Just wondering if its worth swaping out an 1600 mp
for a 1600 mobile.

I would be willing to bet the mobile 1600 will do a whole heck of a lot better than the old MP...if you're just running a single proc setup and have a motherboard that supports multiplier adjustments I say go with the mobile. At the very least it won't hurt to try.
