Retron 3

They are basically emulators themselves. They are ok.

You can find Trinitron CRT's for like 5 to 10 bucks at most goodwill. Their controllers suck but should work with original controllers.

Make sure you get a Everdrive Cart for each system. What is that you ask? It's a cart that will allow you to just put a SD card with every rom available and just insert game cart, turn on system and play every game A to Z on a original console :)

I got one and they are just OK. Controllers are definitely junk, but the controller ports do allow the use of the original controllers for all 3 systems. I originally got mine for $45, but the genesis/megadrive slot went out after a few months of light use. The NES and SNES ports still work fine though. All-in-all, they are nice to have to save some space in the gameroom/den, but you just can't beat the originals.

Honestly? They are junk. They use emulation still so its a total hit and miss process if your game will work. They have problems fitting many custom cartridges. And they are made of the cheapest materials so they often fall apart easily.

My recommendation? Buy whatever console you really want with an RGB mod off Ebay pre-installed and get a SCART compatible cable and buy an XRGB Framemiester (from a good importer) and you'll be golden.

The XRGB takes RGB SCART and scales it (properly) to 1080p through HDMI and it looks absolutely incredible. The XRGB is NOT cheap ($300+) but it works on any old console with an RGB SCART output. The reason why RGB is important is that its the best possible signal from old consoles. S-Video looks like garbage compared to SCART RGB output.

I'll never go back to S-video or compos again. Seriously it makes games that are 240p look incredible at 1080p.

There is really no better option (other than buying a high end CRT but those are expensive as well , Sony PVM's are about $300 starting unless you can find one locally cheap).

+1 for pvm and original hardware, I wouldn't pay more than $100 for a 20" though. For $300 you might as well just go with an xrgb mini.
