Retro gamers/collectors how common is this? Silkscreen wrinkling

So tonight I arrived home all happy about a ebay purchase of Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes (for nintendo gamecube) arrival. To my dismay upon looking over the discs I found that Disc 1 has wrinkled silk screening, yet the aluminum foil looks ok I guess and the bottom of the disc has like no scratching to be found. Immediately started to take pictures of the disc for a return and upon looking at other ebay listing I see other MGS:TS Disc 1 with the same problem.

Is this really that common of a issue? If it is so too common this will put a big dent into my purchases from now on but it is like the last gamecube game I was looking to buy. I don't remember a single game of another system I own with this issue.

My thoughts are either heat is causing this or a bad silk screening/material issue.

Here's a couple of listings with the issue,
http://www.ebay.com/itm/METAL-GEAR-...2882?pt=Video_Games_Games&hash=item233977e052 <- This seller even acknowledges the issue.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Metal-Gear-...3338?pt=Video_Games_Games&hash=item51b0a8f35a <- This one is really messed up.

If anything I hope this is a bit of a PSA for the community of collectors out there.

it either looks like the style of the print, or they were left out in a hot area and the paint cracked...

[EDIT] definitely not the print of the disk

If it works is it a big issue for an older game? You don't really see it. It's not like an N64 game where it sits straight up and stares at you, but I can see wanting it to be perfect too.

I do not know if this really is a common occurrence since the Gamecube is not my main collecting system. All I can say is that I have never seen this before; none of the games I own nor any games I get my hands on display such degradation.

I would say it is a bigger issue for me as the game runs in the $30-60 mark I would have a higher expectation on the condition and appearance of any physical game purchased. IMO if a game is around $15 plus I'd like it to be complete and in good shape but maybe that is just me.

It threw me off at first as it wasn't described in the listing but now looking at the other listing it looks like it was probably a defect in manufacturing for Disc 1 of the game. If it was a storage issue you would think Disc 2 would be also showing signs of damage.

Still debating if it is worth returning but have to test the game before my final decision.

Now all that said. My excitement over MGS as it seems very hyped about and I've never played any of the series, I went on a whim and purchased:
Metal Gear Solid for PSX
Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snake for Gamecube
Metal Gear Solid Legacy for PS3

I've never seen that before, though I never buy used games.

Thanks for that. I buy alot though and still have more to go.

Just to give you an Idea of how many games I own either new or used per system
90: Sega Genesis
47: Nintendo, Super
37: Nintendo 64
18: Nintendo Gamecube
42: Nintendo Wii
52: Sony Playstation 1
99: Sony Playstation 2
34: Sony Playstation 3

Almost all the carts are loose.

You know Twin Snakes is just MGS HD right? So you pretty much bought the same game twice. That said I prefer MGS for PSX.

In Twin Snakes, the lack of accents for Mei Ling, Naomi, and Natasha personally made me cringe. The John Woo wannabe cutscenes added didn’t fit. Yet I played both so maybe you won’t mind as much.

Same, I didn't like the removed accents. MGS is my favorite game series of all time. I keep trying to forget playing it so I can enjoy the experience again every 3-4 years and just have a burnout session of 1-4.

I've never seen that before. I've put quite a bit of hours on my Metroid Prime disc with an original Purple Gamecube and I have never seen the issue. Maybe it's from people improperly handling the disc when changing it out?

Yep, just a HD remake like the REmake games :) , I had originally bought MGS: TS off ebay, then just a couple days later I found MGS for PSX for $7 in good shape (well a crack in the case) and figured I couldn't pass that up.

Metal Gear Solid Legacy showed up today . I didn't see MGS3: Subsistence in there, dunno if it is a big deal though.

Hah, I hope it is just as good as all say, Figure I can play the PSX version and later revisit the GCube version, or vice versa.

I recommend revisiting the GC version sometime after playing MGS2. It's essentially a remake in the MGS2 engine without any redesign of the stages to account for the different AI or expanded player abilities (like first person shooting).

Well if you ask most MGS fans, MGS3 is the best in the series, myself included...I'd call it a huge deal.

MGS3: Snake Eater is in the Legacy collection. But as far as I tell MGS3: Substenence is not. Looks like substenence was just the online version and added a new camera angle to the game.
