I was wondering what if anything is bad about ordering things OEM as opposed to retail from a source such as newegg. I know that it comes as hardware only, right? like if i order a processor I get just the processor. What about return policy, and warranty? thanks.

The big difference is warranty. If you buy OEM, generally you only get a 30 day or other short warranty.

The exception is hard drives. You want to buy them OEM because you will get a longer warranty than if you buy retail. Seagate however and is offering a 5 year warranty on all their retail drives. So if you buy retail, go Seagate.

With OEM hardware, you don't get all the accesories/software either. So if you buy an OEM burner, don't expect to get any burning software with it.

Most items vary though, so look at the OEM, look at the retail, and decide if you can live without some things in return for a lower price.

Warranties are usually a lot smaller on OEM, for eg, A64 Retail has a 3 year warranty, oem has 90 days.
