Restaurant Uses iPads For Menus

I think it is called Microsoft Surface.

Even better, the surface tracks what's on the table and associates it with the customer. Like a credit card (RFID), a receipt, a plate, a glass (The table recognizes the markers underneath the utensils). Or if it was located in a vacation spot, manage the photos they've taken while waiting for their order.

On the other hand. Why didn't they just opt for an android tablet, they're cheaper and they can put in their own software and updates without needing to go through the istore.

All these comments make it sound like this is happening at Kelsey's. Go Google the menu and see if you think his customers care how much the menus are going to cost.

Here's a hint: If you think this is a dumb idea because "it costs too much", you probably never would have eaten at Pearl anyway.

This is being done for the novelty alone, and if anyone can afford it, it's the customers who frequent this place.

Totally agree with your first statement. Most people commenting don't seem to have been to this kind of restaurant. Menus stolen? lol.

But this is being done for the publicity. They already made more business than a restaurant full of iPads costs from a headline just suggesting they are going to do it.

i'm pretty sure reprinting dozens of menus every day for 3 years is still much cheaper than buying dozens of 499$ ipads. (and servicing them!)
not to mention the 40,000$ in purported software development expenses.

besides, how many menu changes are there in a normal restaurant?
once every season?
other than that, specials can be sold just as easily by having the waiter tell you about them specifically.

Most decent restaurants have menu changes every 2 weeks. Still cheaper than using iPads.
