Response time vs. Contrast Ratio

Ok, I've got a choice between a couple of 17" monitors, both Viewsonic

1. VA702B, 12ms response, 500:1 contrast ratio

2. VA712B, 8ms response, 350:1 contrast ratio

Both have the same resolution... the MSRP of the VA712B is more so I'm thinking I should get that one, all else being equal..

What do you guys recommend?

edit: I'm going to be playing games on the monitor, but i also watch a lot of movies on it as well as surfing..
 
I doubt you'll notice much difference between the two response times. However, you will notice the horrible black levels on the one with the lower contrast. I'll never purchase another LCD again. Black levels are terrible. Where is my SED, dammit? :D
 
Response times under what, 25ms aren't noticeable too much in gaming ? (Whatever the Dell 2001fp has, it was one of the first to have the new low-response time). Maybe It was 16ms, but, either way, both of those are lower.

Go with the one with the larger contrast rating. There are plenty of LCDs out right now with plenty of contrast, and very easy to live with black levels for computer purposes.

Agreed ... People kept telling me the black levels on the 2001FP were very good yet I was in shock how bad it was with my CRT sitting next to it. I've got a 24" widescreen CRT (Sony FW900) on the way cant wait to see that one in action :D
 
The only thing that I noticed about response time... with my previous Sharp LCD with 24ms or somthing like that response time and this loaned Sharp LCD (both 19) with 12ms res time ... is when I turn it on the 12ms LCD shows the desktop faster than the other one... I didn't notice any diff in gaming (HALO Trial) but since the borked Sharp with higher res time have 700:1 it is a lot better to look at (the desktop and application stuff not gaming) than this 500:1 Sharp LCD with faster res time...
