I'm thinking once my PSU gets here, the cables will look a lot more like a rat's nest lol. I just wanted to spend a little more time in the back to make sure all the cables would fit. It may be a challenge with all the white extensions I am using lol. I'll post pics when I am finished.

Just like the title... which video card design is preferred in the FT02? External Exhaust? or Reference Cooler?

I'm looking to upgrade my 9800GTX+ to a 460 and can't decide on either the external exhaust design (which is apparently much louder) or the reference design. I'd prefer the reference design to limit the sound but not at the expense of much higher temps.

any experiences that you can relay?

what is that ugly ass velcro strip thing around the PSU and is it required?

I am also wondering about the usb 3.0 and if they are going to incorporate the magnetic filters for the silverstone fortress 2.

edit: moving the fan control switches up towards the front of the case like the raven 3 would also be nice.

I know why your temps are so high!

You have you intake and output of your res/pump around the wrong way. You have it going:
Res>Pump>Bottom Rad>CPU>Mobo>Top Rad>GPU>Res

This way you are filling the res with heated water from GPU, heating up the pump, cooling the water, heating the water with the cpu, pumping heated water through the motherboard, cooling the water with top res, then re-heating it with the gpu.

The correct setup would be:
Res>Pump>GPU>Top Rad>Mobo>Cpu>Bottom Rad> Res

This way you are pumping cooled water through the GPU, cooling the water, pumping the cooled water through the motherboard (small amount of heat), cooling the cpu, then re-cooling the water.

Have a look at this link:

Please let me know what you decide, id love to know the temp difference

That's nice . . . sounds useful . . . but who the heck are you talking to?

Nice! I have pretty much the same spec. I also had a P8P67 Pro, but it give me too much issues so I swapped it out for a P67 Extreme4.

How was the wiring on the back of the case for you guys? The Corsair PSU's cables are a little too short, so all these connectors gets stuck in the back behind the panels, makes it a pain to rout. My back panel still sticks out about 1 mm. Hardly noticeable but drives me crazy.

I really want to pull the trigger on this case but knowing my luck once I do, the next day Silverstone will announce an update with those features. :S

I'm in the same boat as you. Really want want this case (or an rv02-e), but as my luck would have it, it'd probably be released with those features as you said or even maybe a sale price. If someone were selling theirs, maybe I wouldn't have to wait :D (Problem is finding one :()

I'm in the same boat. I want the FT02S-W but if they are going to update it soon then it would be silly to buy one now. I'd also go for the TJ11 but if its is going to be $500-$600 that is just way too much.

No idea if Tony Ou still reads this thread, but perhaps send him a PM in case this doesn't get his attention? Clearly there are some customers itching to buy Silverstone if they'd just add usb 3.0 (and perhaps a few other tweaks).

It's been over a year since the rv02/ft02 hit the market. New intel-based mobos are popping up left and right with onboard 3.0 headers & I/O ports. I'm pretty sure the ft02/rv02 are Silverstone's current top-selling chassis so why aren't they coming with usb 3.0 yet? It doesn't require a major retooling on Silverstone's part; it's basically a cable swap. With all the attention these great cases have garnered, why Silverstone haven't addressed this yet is kinda bizarre.

Raven 2-e is very fresh model i don't think they will refresh it again so soon.

I was thinking the same thing. I don't even think the White limited edition has USB 3.0, but I could be mistaken. I know Amazon has a rebate with Silverstone for the RV02B, guess clearing old models. Now if only the FT02 had the same rebate, that would make it that much sweeter.

Maybe TONY OU can get me a new AP181 fan to replace my two week new fan that crapped out in my FT02???

@ coconutboy
Put me in that list of potential buyers waiting on USB 3.0 support for their purchase...It might not be needed now, but since it's available on many other cases, it would be foolish not to buy a case with that support built in from the start. It's called future-proofing your system. Not everyone has the budget to buy new hardware whenever they want, some of us buy the best we can and make it stretch as long as possible. To me, a case is a long term purchase, so I want something that will last a few upgrades.

I fired off a PM to Tony Ou, Silverstone's forum rep here at the [H]. Likewise, it'd probably be a good thing if other people messaged Tony Ou, too. Here's what I sent:

Just giving you the heads-up since you've probably been too busy to follow the ft02 thread.

Between the forums here at the [H] and a few other sites, I've seen quite a bit of chatter that people interested in buying an ft02 aren't doing so because it lacks usb 3.0 support. Check the last 4 or so pages of the ft02 thread for more info, but here's my post.

Your company is kicking ass with a lot of innovation (I'm really interested in the ft03 and even my g/f thinks it looks cool), but it'd be silly to lose sales because ya'll skimped on a few of the basics. It's 2011 sir, and usb 3.0 is no longer a selling point, it's required. Especially on a $200+ case! As is, I spent over twice the cost of an ft02 for a Lian Li pc-x2000f in part, because it came with usb 3.0 and Lian Li has a reputation for offering cable upgrades.

P.S. I've seen at least 3 people now complain that their AP 181 fans broke w/ zero user error and RMA's are being denied. Bad form. Here's a pair of links. Hopefully it's not a recurring issue.

I doubt anything will come of a single pm, especially since Silverstone should be on top of this kinda stuff anyhow. But maybe if there's enough chatter in the forums here and elsewhere, they'll do the smart thing (add usb 3.0 to their cases) and the right thing (honor RMA's on their ~$20 fans!).

And while they're at it, here's a couple other gripes they could fix:
  • improve packaging or whatever it takes so new owners don't open their ft02/rv02 box to find the window damaged
  • use a single large magnetic screen on the exterior of the bottom air intake. This will make it easier to clean vs having to remove the side panel. Cost increase should be minimal if not zero

The ft02/rv02 are so badass, that's all that comes to mind! Anyone else got gripes?

faulty fans and poor RMA service from Silverstone is making me think a Corsair 650D is in my future

Hi guys, we are indeed evaluating USB 3.0 implmentation on both FT02/RV02 right now. There is a very good chance they will get updated. I think we can also take care of current owners by offering USB 3.0 port for sale separately out of our branch offices.

Other things mentioned such as fan filters or fan speed switch location are much more difficult to implement so I don't think they will happen.

I also inquired my colleagues at our US office about fan replacements. They did confirm that they have received requests about them, but their RMA procedure requires invoice, sales receipt, or any proof of purchase before they are allowed to provide replacements. So please make sure that you can provide these or else they cannot help you. I know that this may be troublesome for some of you, but please understand that we have a system in place for our RMA services.

Poor RMA service? That's a first. There's nothing Joel at Silverstone didn't handle quickly.
I had to replace the USB circuit board, replacement screws and parts for the FT02 and he sent them right away.

Just like with any company, send emails and you'll see yourself waiting unnecessarily.
Call them, state your situation, send required info, call to verify they received the info and then call back to make sure the parts has shipped. This must be done all in the same day or next.
There's always a method to the madness when dealing with large corporations, you just have to follow up constantly until your issue is solved.

my comment was based on a couple of complaints I saw from other people
I have no experience with SilverStone's RMA service

my experiences with Corsair customer service have been great

I will say the multiple reports of fans shattering for no reason do not inspire confidence

I haven't had to RMA anything through the SS USA office, but whatever transactions I have done through them have gone quickly and smoothly thanks to Joel as well. WorldExclusive gave some good advice, call them.

Ok I understand.

One error I've seen with the FT02/RV02 is the fan filter being too close against the fan. When I opened one of the FT02 cases I had for the first time, one of the fan blades was stuck against the filter, if I would have turned the fan on it when have been destroyed! So everytime I install the filters I made sure it didn't interfere with the fan blades when inserting them back into the slot. Make sure the filters aren't turned upside down and forced in which can also cause friction with the filter and break your fan blades.

Excellent news since I bought an FT02 off of Amazon yesterday.

Agreed! I bought a FT02 two days ago, and I would love to have the option to upgrade my case with usb3 ports. I guess this would be a good opportunity for Silverstone to show that they actually care about current FT02 owners.

I got my raven-2 yesterday :) Holy crap that thing is build like a tank.
Heh i spent first 10 minutes after asembling system switching Air Penetrators from low to high and listening to that glorious sound of tremendous airflow :D

But i got a question does someone have corsair HX 750 or 850 inside his FT2/Raven2 ? Mine seem to started making funny clicking noise. Do you think i should try to RMA based on it ?

My HX850's fan started to rattle after a month or so in an FT02. I RMA'd it and moved to the X-750.

I would buy one of these usb 3.0 ports for the ft02 immediately. Thanks for the info Tony!

Hmm, while this is awesome news, I'm still holding out until I know for sure. 240 bucks is a hell of a lot of money to drop on hearsay. If he said we will offer usb 3.0 updates for sure I would buy one right now.

Until then, my new sandy bridge system sits naked on my desk sans case. I'm sure i'm not the only person who just built a new sandy bridge system either and is waiting for a case to come out.

Got my FT02 in from Amazon. The top cover is jacked up right out of the box. Quality assurance either missed this or didn't give a crap. I'm disappointed.

I would imagine tooling in final construction dinged the end of the top cover like that.

The screw completely missed the hole and jacked up the plastic pretty bad.

I was able to fix both issues on my own but for $250 I expect better.

Yep. I'm caseless also. New platform means new case.

Wow, not fun. I would agree with you, for that kind of cash, we expect more...

Greetings Tony!

I saw a preview of the RV02White and saw that it has an extra brace between the I/O shield area and the card slot area and re-designed power/reset buttons. Will this brace be added to the FT02/RV02?
