The LE is a nice case.

I'm going smaller since I can't devote as much time to PC building.
The FT03 looks like a good option if priced reasonably.

Just really depends on what kind of PC the person is planning to build.

You could just not change your rig and graphic card every other minute and not be forced to go smaller ;)

Yeah, I saw the FT03 in black a while back and also thought it looked FAR better than the silver/white one.

My PC is a hobby, not a need so I change it often just to test stuff. It's just entertainment just like an XBOX or PS3 would be, but I have more control an options with a PC.
I really got a lot out of my PC over the last two years, owned almost every setup possible. Now that I'm not going to be buying stuff for it on a regular basis, it has to be small and out of the way.

You were worst than me when it comes to cases, but you have also decided to take it easy this year.

The FT02 can fit 13.7" video cards. If I decide to buy it, I won't have to switch to another case because of space.
First case that will go behind the monitor for me.

lol...I was just messing with you. What are you gonna do with the Lian Li? Maybe I'd like it back ;). And actually, I'm taking it easy with cases cause there's nothing out there that intrigues or that I will like more than the FT02. Some of the recently announced cases like the 650D bore and disappoint me on second glance. I'd really just get a mac pro if they weren't a rip off...

The HR-03 performs really well in this case btw. Now I just need thermalright to make a vrm cooler for the 6950 and I'll be all set.

I agree about the Mac Pro, the FT02 is the closest you'll get. The V1020R is awesome but all the extra space will influence me to start buying stuff I don't need anymore. Not too many people appreicate Lian Li cases though. If I had a HAF X some would have bought it by now.

The 650D is a disappointed because of the side panel and no stealth drives.

Where do I plug the top fan cable?

How about into a normal mobo fan header???

Maybe I'm not understanding your question - but the "top" fan in the FT02 is the equivalent of the rear fan in most other "normal" cases so you'd just connect it to a normal mobo fan header just like any other fan. Now if your mobo doesn't have a fan header within reach of the fan then you'll either need a fan with a longer cable or get a fan cable extension.

Well, I can either plug into the chassis or power fan header. Which one do I need?

:D Now that you mention it, yes I have noticed WE's sig (hw) changes quite often. :D

I enjoy the hobby quite a bit too (though I'm done with board/proc/ram upgrades since going sr-2/dual hex w/HT)....damn though, I can't go through constantly swapping in and out hardware and doing flushes, driver sweeps, cable sleeving etc. etc. ;)
I do miss my FT02 quite a bit but there's no way to hack an sr-2 into that thing.

I had a lot of requests for pics of my rig with the classified and the h70 with push/pull in the ft02. Here's a crappy pic I took with my phone. It looks much better in real life lol.

Hi guys! I show you some pictures of my integration.

WC components:
WB: HeatKiller CPU Rev3.0
Radiator: Swiftech MCR320 - QP Stack 360mm
Pump: Swiftech MCP350@355
Tubing: Masterkleer 15,9/12,7mm UV-reactive black
Fittings: Bitspower 16/13mm - matt black
Reservoir: XSPC Dual 5.25 Reservoir for 1 Laing DDC

I replaced the top fan with an Enermax Apollish and this is the result :p

What do you think?

Very nicely done PuD! It looks very clean. Question though. I'm looking to do a similar set up with my ft02 when it arrives tomorrow, but I want to make sure that radiator will fit without modification to the case. In your picture above it looks like you may have changed the 5 HDD hotswap bay to fit the radiator you have.

Here is a stock picture.

http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f124/dvd0020/FT02original.jpg

Wasn't sure if it just looked different because of the red color (optical illusion maybe?) I still see that there are still 5 drive bays in there, so if anything it looks like you extended it in the middle. Can you clear this up? Thanks!

Sam - come on, bro - you're not doing your system justice with that pic! I've seen that thing and it's much nicer than that picture shows. At least take off the side panel for a clearer shot!!! ;)

I just received my FT02B-W that I bought used off of ebay. Whomever had it before me daiseychained all of the case fans to one molex connector and had that hidden behind the back tray with the rest of the cables. While it does hide all of the case fan cables, is it really ok to just have them plugged into one molex power plug? Or is it better if I attach the fans to the motherboard fan headers instead?

Also, is the PSU strap really necessary? the seller did not include it :( Thanks!

1. Yes, molex is OK (power comes directly from PSU, what do you think happens when power needs to be drawn from the mobo for the headers?)
2. No, strap not necessary. I run mine without it and have transported it almost a thousand miles.

Thanks for the quick response! I know it provides power directly from the power supply, I guess I wasn't sure about a.) If one single molex connector provided enough juice for all 4 case fans and b.) if it was important to have it connected to motherboard headers so that the headers could offer variable voltage for fan speed, or to monitor/display/record the current fanspeed for a display/readout, or someother benefit I didn't know about (otherwise, why have the case fans connect to the motherboard at all? Just have a connector on the power supply).

I don't know specification on molex but 3 180mm fans from FT2 are 10,8W so comparable to older 7200rpm hdd.
Air penetrators are >15W.

just finished my build today, thou still have to adjust the cabling so the back plate will fit on cleaning

Long time lurker here, finally putting together a VERY quiet Silverstone FT02 build. Let me know if any of this doesn't make sense or will definitely have spatial issues.

Case: SILVERSTONE Fortress Series FT02B Black
PSU: CORSAIR AX850 850W
CPU: Intel Core i7-2600K
CPU Cooler: Prolimatech Megahalems Rev.B
CPU Cooler fans: Akasa 120mm x 25mm Apache Black Super Silent PWM Fan x3 (one to replace the exhaust on FT02) on Akasa PWM Splitter
Mobo: ASUS SABERTOOTH P67 LGA 1155
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR3 1600
GPU: EVGA 015-P3-1580-AR GeForce GTX 580
GPU Cooler: Thermalright Spitfire w/ GF-100 BTK and Thermalright TR TY-140 140mm x 160mm PWM Fan -
Thermalright VRM-G2 VGA Voltage Regulator Cooler - Should fit 580 if one screw is removed. Will it interfere with CPU cooler/fans?

Is the PSU fan going to align with the case opening? Is the PSU fan grille going to be pushing against the removable dust filter?
Are the RAM heat sinks too tall and will conflict with the CPU push fan?
Spitfire will obviously be pointing towards the front of the case, not towards the CPU. It has the correct heat pipe orientation and won't have the issues that Shaman and Accelero Xtreme Plus have in this case. Am I going to be able to install a PCI sound card (ASUS Xonar Essence ST) in a slot under the heat sink or does it sit pretty close to the mobo?
The 480 VRM cooler should fit 580 if one screw is removed. Will it interfere with CPU cooler/fans?

Any help would be appreciated.

So i'm thinking about replacing the stock i7-2600k heatsink/fan with an H70.

Is the H70 easy to install in this case? (heh, any chance I can get it on the cpu without removing the motherboard from the case?).

I presume the bottom fan should be setup to pull air up from the bottom of the case, and top fan should push it out the top...

Any recommendations for thermal goo? Also, what should I use to clean off the existing thermal gunk from the current heatsink/fan?

Thanks!

Why all the H70 craze?

Especially in FT2 where big air coolers like HR-2 should be able to work passively or almost passively ?

I just installed a H70 this week - it's pretty easy to do after the first time. It's different than the normal HSF you're used to installing so there is a little bit of a learning curve the first time - but after that, it's pretty straight forward. The hardest part for me was dealing with the attached tubing and finding the best fit without getting the tubing messed up. I did it but think I'll adjust it today by rotating the pump unit 90* so it'll look better.

I did clean off the OEM thermal compound and use my own - I just don't trust the OEM stuff and would rather go with someone I know and trust (arctic silver 5). The instructions will tell you to set up the unit the other way but I did install it to exhaust OUT of the FT02 instead of in because the bottom 180mm fans do a plenty good job bringing in ample cool air.

In my case, it was simply because the tall RAM I use prevented me from doing push/pull on my Prolimatech MegaShadow. The one fan that would fit was on the top (pull) side and that resulted in load temps in the very high 80's which is a no go for me. The H70 not only brought those temps back down into the low 70's, it also provides a lot more room around the CPU socket area and it looks a lot better too.

The stock thermal paste on the h70 is very good. Probably better than the arctic silver 5.

Yeah I was just gonna say. Generally using your own over the OEM stuff is very good, EXCEPT on the H50/H70, they use really awesome TIM.

Oh well, just made some extra work for no gains, and hopefully no loss.

Just finished building the SB build. The case is very nice, but could have been more space on the side. Not the best cable management, but at least clean on the other side. The short SATA cables are must for this case.

I FINALLY got my LIMITED EDITION Red FT02!!! And some nifty new Sandy Bridge parts (specs in sig) so here's my new setup as of today. The Dominator GT's prevent me from using the normal push/pull config on my Prolimatech so I'm looking to get a Corsair H70 to replace it soon. I really like the red interior compared to the black.

is that SSD bracket stock?

Yes, that's the stock SSD tray included with the case. I don't use my SSD with that tray because it doesn't make for clean cabling. I bought a Silverstone 3.5 to 2.5" adapter and installed my SSD in the normal HDD drive bay. That removed one power cable and made for cleaner cable management all the way around.

Initially found it on ebay but seller turned out to be a member [H]ere.

I realized that after everything was done. Should have put the stock Intel SSD adapter also.

Not the best cable management. Could have used a little more room behind the tray. Still have the rest of the cables to connect...

Haha, it's still way better than mine! I got everything plugged in and then was like "Ok can I close the case without bulging the metal? Yes? ok done." I greatly appreciate that the interior visible through the window of the case looks great, and I will just keep hidden the rat's nest of cables behind the back panel! I love this case!
