Man, black + red + FT02 = 'teh sex' :D
Very nice WE.

Yeah I think I'm gonna swap out the golf ball fan for an S-Flex as well and see if that solves my heat pocket. :)
I need to head to MC and pick up some OCZ Freeze (or use another syringe of AS5) and install my Arrow and then dump some updated pics myself.

Thanks!

I have a S-Flex fan up top also. I may sleeve the cables in the near future if I run out of things to do.
When I get that done and buy a new camera, I'll post more photos.

So anyone knows when the next version might come out? I know it hasn't even been a year yet, but with the release of the RV02-E I'm hoping for a version that fixes the hard drive cage issues soon.

One fix for the HDD cage issues some users are having is to shim the cages. I mounted one of my power inverters for a CCFL in the 5.25 bay just above the HDD racks and secured it using a velcro strap. The strap goes down through the airflow holes and comes up through another one. This added material where the drive sleds slide in makes them more difficult to slide in and out, but it's not bad and the extra resistence will friction lock them in there.

Seriously. Some people must be mounting their FT02's sideways from the ceiling or something because I have had zero issues with the drive cages.

I heard a lot of people were complaining about the quality of the plastic hard drive bays and some were having trouble with their hard drives sliding out when the case is tilted. So I was hoping they would fix this issue in the next iteration.

Honestly the reason I like this case is because of the cooling/noise ratio. The 3x 180mm fans seems to do the job well from all that I've read and I think everyone (or almost everybody) agrees that this is a very quiet case. I built a computer for my friend using the 800D and while I was very impressed with that case in general (wire management is a dream), I was put off by the fact that I needed to buy 4 more fans to get adequate cooling. Also, the exposed fans on top also made the case a bit louder than I would've liked.

Looks wise I do like the 800D and the TJ-09 better, as the FT02 is just a tad too bland for me, and Omerta's comparison of this case to the Dell box certainly made me LOL. I supposed I'll wait until after Computex to see what the TJ11 looks like, but right now I'm seriously considering the FT02 for its balance of cooling capabilities and noise insulation.

IDK who has their FT02 titled/slanted.
You could probably have almost any tool-free mechanism fail if you tilted the case in question. All I can say is as it's supposed to be - I have no problems with drives sliding, they stay in their place. You slide the drive in and once you push the latch down and in, the drive stays in it's place. If you tilt the case and put it upside down, maybe they fall out; I dunno.

My case is right side up as it should be on my desk, and the drive sleds work fine for me. :D

True, nobody has their case sitting upside down, but for the price Silverstone is asking, I would like to have a more stable solution than the cheap plastic tabs they have now.

I move my case around a good amount from the top of my desk to the floor since I'm constantly changing hardware. I can see how it'd be a problem if my drive cages were loose.

Has anyone compared the new 180MM AP Penetrator fans to the ones that come with the FT02?

Is it possible to remount the 18cm fans with silicon anti-vibration fan mounts?

Do your 180s make THAT much vibration noise? You can put a silicon washer in between the fan and the mounting sled, although I don't think it would help with the noise.

It may be that some of us got FT02's that probably shouldn't of passed quality control. The latches on my HDD trays aren't secure at all because all I have to do is lean the case forward and shake it a little and those trays all come flying out. Even when I was routing the motherboard cables through the back of the case I kept having to push the HDD trays back in because when I would slide the cables through the back they would push into the drive trays and out they'd come.

Identical issue here. All of my hard drive trays, but one will pop out with the slightest provocation. Was a royal pain in the ass when routing cables, but I think I'm OK now, so long as I don't move anything. Another couple inches clearance in the back for routing cables and a functional hard drive cage and I'd give this thing five stars.

Otherwise, no complaints and I'm loving the dust filters / airflow.
I do notice the odd popping, snapping sound. Which I'm assuming is just the case expanding as it heats up?

It's the mesh on the top where the heat exhausts from. If I take the top piece off, it doesn't do it anymore so I know it's the mesh piece.

Wow, never heard that noise coming from my case before. Have you tried securing the mesh tabs on the underside of the top piece more? Mine were semi-loose when they came. I just took the tabs and bent them in more for a more secure fit.

So I got my PC-P50R, and more i play with it, the more I realize I really don't like it. Don't like its looks outside the anodized red interior. Don't like the fit and finish of it. I still haven't seen Lian Li's "legendary build quality" in any of the cases I've owned. The red accent on front that the drive bays are between are not even straight. Looks like they've been chipped or something going all along. They weren't cut straight. The top panel comes off too easily but it definitely does attach easier than the ft02's top panel. The dust filters are a pain in the ass. Hardly any interior room in there (expected from a midtower) and the case's build quality definitely does not match the FT02. Though I did find a way to fit my watercooling stuff inside the pc-p50. I'm not happy about it however. Now I am up in the air if I'm going to keep it or hold on to my ft02. But I'm probably just gonna keep it because I can't stand my aircooling temps.

I got rid of the P50R because of the HDD bay and the cheap clips they use for the top/front panel. They snap off so easliy if your not careful. Super glue fixed that more than one time. The FT02 uses similar clips and are tough as can be. I'm pretty much done with Lian Li cases. I'm sticking with Silverstone, Corsair or a sensible Cooler Master case.

I bought a black FT02 w/window and installed all my crap yesterday. It's big for sure and relatively quiet. The swap went OK except for the wiring which took all the fun out of it. I'm using a PCPower S75QB with a monster cable bundle that left me no choice but to cram it into the back of the case.

I plan on using my t-balancer bigNG to control the 4 case fans if I can find a place to hide the thing. Best of both world setting it up to automatically increase fan speed based on temp. If you guys haven't seen one, I'd recommend looking it up. The stock 975 cooler is easily the loudest thing in there (but hey it looks pretty).

And for the ones with high HD temps, try mounting a 120mm to a 3.5" to 5.25" adapter and mounting it in the lowest bay to pull out of the top. Typically fans lose static pressure as they increase in size, and the HD cage might be just too tight for it.

I just opened mine up to look at it, and I don't see why you couldn't use silicon fan mounts to attach the fans to the mounting sleds. I think I'll buy 3 AP181 Penetrators and some silicon fan mounts and see how it goes.

How high were they? According to your sig you're only running at 3.2GHz. Your Ven-X should be great for that. I got myself a Cogage Arrow to replace my Ven-X and I'm getting lower temps and less noise (still using push-pull GT1850s turned down to 1570rpm). The cogage arrow is a pain in the ass to install though unless you take your PSU out of the FT02.

If they stick out of the bottom of the sled they could interfere with the dust filters. Personally I think it's easier just to stick a rubber washer or o-ring inbetween the fan and the sled. Let us know how it goes though!

The Silverstone 180mm Air Penetrator fans are available for purchase now from Sundial Micro.

http://www.sundialmicro.com/silverstone-air-penetrator-fan-sstap181_2128_1862.html

I'd like to see how much difference they make in temps compared to the stock but I don't know if I want to spend $83.97 to find out until I see some tests.

I would honestly only upgrade the fans below the CPU and motherboard area, I don't think an improved fan under the drives is really worth it.

Silverstone 180mm Air Penetrator at least on high will substantially increase noise @ 18 / 34dB(A) and the price premium is pretty steep(x3). Any comparison numbers from people who own the red interior version?

I find it odd that none of the 4 fans available from Silverstone seem to match the stock fans re: RPM (700/1000).

WE,

What can i say great minds think alike? Seems like alot of ppl with FT02 builds have similar thinking on their parts.

Cool. Will give that a try, though it's not a big deal. Stops once the thing warms up.

Anyone come up with a decent fix for the hard drive retention issue? I'm thinking a strip of adhesive Velcro across the front of the drive cages would probably do the trick. Unless Silverstone plans on releasing a fix.

Idles in the high 30s to low 40s. Gets over mid 70s at full load.

BTW acoustic performance while gaming has been outstanding with the intake fans on low even. While the experience isn't silent, it is very quiet considering a stock 975 cooler, Sapphire Vapor-X 5870, and PCPower 750 Quad (units with an 80mm fan, not know for being especially quiet).

The case I came from was a modified SuperMicro CSE-733T and while I liked the HD backplane/trays better, cooling was loud under gaming conditions with the same components and a fan controller. I just need to do some cable management and I'll be happy with the FT02.

Two days of reading to get through this thread.. and now I feel this is my next case. I am in desperate need of a case upgrade. I'm still sportin' a CM Wave from '05 :p

That is odd they bumped up the speed on the AP's.

I am very interested in hearing some reviews of the new AP fans in action from the Red limited edition as well. It will have some bearing on which route I choose to purchasing this case. Has anyone heard if the standard FT02's will be getting the upgraded fans in the weeks to come, or should I assume it's just to help sell the limited edition?

That is odd they bumped up the speed on the AP's.

They didn't really bump it up that much. The FM181 (ball bearing 180mm) is rated at 1300rpm while the AP181 is only rated at 1200rpm. The stock FN181 when purchased alone is rated at 750rpm and the ones in the FT02 are rated at 1000rpm.

Not sure if SS is including the APs in the FT02 anytime soon. Email Tony?

Oh, for some reason after all the reading I had thought the included 180's on high were 1000 and thought the new AP180's were more than 1200, but I am tired and now overloaded with info.

As for emailing Tony, I am sure that would be the most reliable answer but I thought I would ask in this thread prior to doing so. I will email him tomorrow when I am more awake, thanks.

*edit.. man, I should have rested prior to responding.. I just noticed this in your reply:
the ones in the FT02 are rated at 1000rpm.
Which is basically what I thought and wrote above.. confused yet
You're right, that isn't as much of a bump as it first sounded to me.

WE,

Yeah.. after getting all the parts together and looking at them... did not want to deal with the cable management.. and since he was local and someone i can go and talk too.. it made me go with him putting it together for me. It's the lazy way out i guess, but after putting together my last 3 computers.. I wanted a break. And he was very open with me with build ideas and how I wanted it to look, and I am very happy with the results. Is it me or does it look a little empty in there?

The case looks better with two cards in CF/SLI. That's why I've been hesitant on adding a 5970 because I paid $400 for a motherboard to run CF/SLI. Going with one card is kinda a waste of money on the motherboard to me. If you get a 5870 and CF with your 5970 it will look awesome.

only thing holding me back from getting another card..is the issue with eyefinity with trifire or quadfire.
