Heh yeah, I guess I just expected it to be more like a wind tunnel with the size of the fans.
I suppose it's more geared towards silence in its design, there are times when I am gaming and could easily think that the computer is not even turned on it's so quite.
Still it's hard to believe that the 180s are pushing 100CFM when I can barely feel them.
So you are not using the little 3 pin tri-splitter to Molex adapter???
Can you control speed with speed fan or just detect speeds???
New Limited Edition - Silverstone FT02 w/ RED Interior!!!
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811163165
IMO, if the interior was aluminum and was anodized red like the Lian Li P50R, it would have been a must have. Since it's powercoated red I rather keep my all black version of the case.
still pretty hot, but I'd rather have all black. It wouldn't look good down the road if you were to get a motherboard with a blue color theme or something.
I just joined the FT02 club!
The interesting thing is, the FT02 is actually LOUDER than my cheap, yet optimized, Raidmax Smilodon. Temps are better in the FT02 by about 3-5C, but the overall noise is greater. Not exactly what I had hoped for.
For my Smilodon I had two 1450rpm Scythe GTs for intake, one 1450rpm GT for exhaust, two 1850rpm GTs on the VenX, and two Radeon 5850s in CFX.
On the FT02 the difference between using an 1850rpm and a 1450rpm GT for the exhaust is .5C-1C when my system is OC'd to 4GHz. I also put a 1450rpm GT in a Scythe Kama bay on the front. I'll have to buy an S-flex and see if I can attain higher airflow out of the top while keeping the noise lower than the 1850rpm GT.
Tempting - would look great with our Classified mobo & system right now though!
And who are YOU kidding? Do you think you'll still have the same case by the time you get your next motherboard? You (and me) will likely be through another two or three cases by the time with redo our systems again!
The only thing I don't like about the powdercoating part is that it'll get marked up fairly easily from the installation of your various components. Still, it's very, very tempting though.
you sure it's not your GPU or something?
I'm positive it's not the GPU's. My 5850s' fans idle at 23% which is inaudible over ambient noise. The noise coming from the FT02 isn't so much a fan motor noise (although that's slightly higher than my Smilodon), but more of an air turbulence noise. It's either because of the open top design or the increased air flow. My girlfriend even commented at how much louder the air noise was.
All my fans (except the 180's) are on silicone fan gaskets too.
So far I've tried a GT1850, GT1450, and the stock golf fan on the exhaust. Out of these the GT1850 was too loud, and the GT1450 didn't move quite as much air as the stock golf fan.
I'm thinking of trying out a fan on the exhaust that has higher air flow than the stock golf fan, but similar noise levels. The Scythe Slipstream 1200rpm would be my first choice followed by the Scythe S-flex 1200rpm. Now, I know it's accepted that sleeve bearing fans should not be mounted horizontally like the FT02's fans are oriented, but if that's the case how come ALL the included fans with the FT02 are sleeve bearing? The stock golf fan is sleeve, the stock 180mm fans are sleeve... Would it really be that detrimental to put a Slipstream as the exhaust fan? What experiences have you guys had mounting a Slipstream horiztonally (blowing upwards)? Thanks.
You are right on that as normal sleeve bearing fans become noisier only when they are positioned horizontally to blow air up because they vibrate a lot in that particular orientation (this is not a problem if the fan is blowing air down). Noise caused by vibration aside, sleeve bearing fan is still quieter than ball bearing fan. So when we were developing the 180mm fans for the Fortress FT01 and RAVEN RV01 case last year, we spent quite a lot of time solving this problem, eventally we found that a custom spacer designed to fit between the C ring and the bearing cover did the trick and eliminated the vibration.
Got pressured into getting the black on red instead of the Mac.. i mean ft02 silver that I would have preferred.
Ciao SFF!
Need some help here.... about to start my build with my ft02... was wondering if I go sli or crossfire..what opticals fit? I know there is not issue with single gpu, but ppl have been saying i might have fitment issues with 2 cards.
I don't know. My blu-ray drive fit in the top bay, but I didn't like how it looked on the exterior and the interior, so I took it out and got a usb drive. I have 2 GTX 480s in there and just looking at it I think you'd be able to fit an optical drive just fine.
Just the guy I wanted to talk too... how are the temps for the gtx480 sli in that case? I'm down to deciding between 480 in sli or a 5970. Got any pics of the interior of your case?
Just FYI. Oddly enough, my temps actually rise by 1 or 2 degrees with the fan speed set to high. This goes for my CPU and my GPUs. Might as well just put them all at low and avoid all the noise.

Hrm. Doesn't work that way for me. My temps are about 2C lower when the fans are on high. Honestly I can't tell the difference in noise between the low and the high setting.
really? there's a BIG difference IMO. You sure there isn't something else in your case creating the noise? I should seriously record the difference.
I'm in agreement with FaRKle0079. I can't tell the difference between high and low, and I on high my temps are a tad lower too.
you guys obviously have something else in your case overshadowing the noise of the fans on high. there's definitely a difference
So the S-Flex 1200rpm fan is definitely louder than the stock golf fan. I actually find the S-Flex's hum fairly annoying. Temps-wise it seems to be about the same or slightly worse (no actual testing done, just a few quick looks at the numbers).
Anybody else know of any fans that push more air than the standard 120mm golf fan that are quiet? The standard golf fan appears to be a derivative of this globefan. My guess is that it pushes about 48-50CFM of air at about 23dBA (scaling to globefan's charts).
I think you are overly concerned about the fan. You could put a 6000 RPM fan as the exhaust fan and I doubt it'd make a big difference temp wise.
You have 3 exhaust fans counting your two 5850s, plus the air all naturally rising through the vented vented PCI slot covers/vents at the top.
I just ordered the Silverstone FT02 and have a black TRUE-120 Extreme already from my last build but considering trying out the H50 which will give me more room around the CPU area as well as making it easier to swap processors. I'll be overclocking i7 processors to 4Ghz+ so I wanted to find out first how well the H50 is performing in this particular case.
I'd stick with the TRUE. You're not going to get temps much better with the H50... in some cases I've heard the temps are worse.
^^^ Very Nice
The most interesting feature about the Red Edition case is the new 180mm fans.
Let us know how much air they move and your cooling performance.
