Hear the H50 can't compare to the high end air (temp/dollar or temp), why'd you go this route?

It seems to depend a little on who you ask with regards to it competing with high end air cooling.

However, the main reason I opted for the H50 was noise levels. It is basically silent; the only noise comes from whatever 120mm fan you are using. Heatsink/Fans I've used in the past have typically produced a lot more noise. Also I like the look it gives, but that is personal preference.

How so? Either way, it still hangs just the same?

Not really. One wat the weight of the card causes rotational forces on the motherboard (not really but many will claim this. With this orientation the card want to displace straight down but the screw secures it preventing any torsive effects on the motherboard. I don't belive these are substantial enought to warrant any concer, but the design certainly is different and could limit these theoitical forces.

Hear the H50 can't compare to the high end air (temp/dollar or temp), why'd you go this route?

The primary reasons were:

1- to keep the CPU socket clear (and less of a concern, weight off the mobo). Too many case/mobo/cooler combos result in losing access to RAM slots, or unable to use the side mounted fans in cases like the Antec p93 etc. Several of the cases I had been looking into back in Sept had problems with various coolers and the h50 solves these problems nicely. Plus, I found it on sale at Mwave for ~$14 less than the $80 MSRP which made the cost less of a concern

2- noise. I recommended a friend try it out based on the early previews and we really liked working with it both from an installation perspective and performance (he's not an OCer). At the time, IIRC, Kyle B. didn't think much of it, but that was from a cost/performance perspective and running a stock h50. Since I'm only a modest overclocker these days, outright performance wasn't a big deal, but the noise is very much a concern. If I needed more performance, I could just slap on a pair of better or higher-rpm fans in a push-pull config which I intended to do regardless. Then I saw the legitreviews test where they used a push-pull setup and was very pleased that my suspicions were confirmed.

3- It's better than some people give it credit for. Sure it's not as good as top performers like the TRUE etc, but it's also a lot quieter and the h50 is still competitive when given a better fan.

Negatives going against the h50 were that I'm probably going to build a full-blown watercooling rig before summer 2010, and buying an h50 just leeches away money from that budget. Then my g/f saw the h50 and thought it was neat, so we decided to use it for her gaming box instead. I also think that while the h50 seems all spiffy 'n' chic now when it's teh new shiny, in the longer term it is going to have problems. The cooler is sealed up w/ no way for users to flush the loop. I'd expect that in time, corrosion is gonna degrade performance and, sooner or later, give some users a nasty surprise. It'd certainly suck to watch our temps get worse and worse as time goes by, and then the final insult is the block, tubing or rad bust open and spray the system w/ liquid. I figure the h50 is going in the trash sometime in the next 2-4 years; hopefully before that happens.

I might still get this ft02 in addition to my lian li pc-b10. Thinking it over.

I have an H50 and I probably will not use it for more than a 1-1.5 years. The warranty expires in two years. I'll probably go with a solid WC loop after this but nothing extreme, just for silent computing. The 5970 is a jet engine.

I might wait for new case news in my b10 after all. Dam case grows on you! I was all unhappy at first until I looked at it some more like. If I catch a good deal on the ft02, its game on tho.

question is, do I have to put my ft02 quest on hold for xmas? Dam holidays getting in the way! Guess I need to go xmas shopping too!

I will say this for the lian li pc-b10, its nice enough to consider keeping around in addition to the ft02.
You might not have a choice in the matter. Unless the egg gets FT02s in stock sometime soon, it looks like what Tony said will hold true and we won't see any more new stock hitting shelves before the 3rd week of Dec or perhaps even later. If that ends up being the situation, the price will have to be very competitive including tax/shipping or else fuggit, at this point I've waited so long, I'll just wait a bit longer to see what comes outta CES.

Edit- bah, your stealth edit snuck in on me Sylar ^.^

sorry, I'm changing my mind as I post like! Don't hate me!

anyway, I'm thinking I want an ft02 now, I can wait for it if I have to.

this whole case thing is pretty emotional for me, it has grown beyond basic needs into a search for perfection and art. Guess I should tone down the edit button, thought noone saw it!

ces sounds like a good idea coconutboy. I can sit in my b10 for a bit. Like if the tj10 comes out or if corsair comes with a new design. Thanks, your my voice of reason in my overthinking world!

yea, because this case is taking so long to come out, i will wait till ces to see what else is available

ah screw reason, I'm gunning for the FT02 anyway. Better fan mounts and filters and black interior made my mind up. I can't wait till ces. I'll find one in stock or I'll load up old faithful again (Xasor III Thermaltake) while I wait for stock. Going to sell the PC-B10 off like.

Yeah, it's not perfect by any means, but the FT02 hits so many of the right notes, the only reason we'll pass is price or if something better is coming before summer.

yea, because this case is taking so long to come out, i will wait till ces to see what else is available

Keep in mind, however, that just because a new case demos at CES doesn't mean we'll be able to buy it. Might be anywhere from a 2 week to ~6 month delay. For me, it's not too big a deal since we can just use our existing cases till then. In our household, we're mainly buying new cases for aesthetics, summertime temps, and to hold our vid cards which won't fit in our older mid towers.

If you buy this and make a mod or see someone else's mod please post it here. I'll be doing the same. Thanks.

I change my mind so much on cases I should not even post. However Corsair finally won me over with the 800D, but only cus I decided to mod the airflow to my needs. It's only the 4th case I tried =)

I'm happy that I finally sold that pc-b10 off, those fans are too hard to access and its too small for someone who upgrades alot.

I was a fan of mid towers, not anymore! I need some elbow room for custom filter upgrades.

Ah you're a lightweight. :D
I've went through probably 7 or 8.

sundial micro, newegg and amazon have great return policies, sometimes you pay return shipping and restock fees around 15%. The b10 I bought from frozencpu was non returnable, while it was a black friday special, I lost more money selling it on these forums. So I'm sticking to these stores from now on. Zipzzomfly or tiger direct look like nice stores too, but I don't know their return policies by heart, but my ram purchase from zipzoomfly was smooth and they had the best price by far.

I read the review on overclock 3d for the 800d, not great, so I can't get it now. Its so awesome and so lacking intakes! So its back to the ft02 for looks, but if I can live with it, the cooler master sniper black edition is simply better imho (currently!) for cooling and my aftermarket fan plans. I don't think anything can beat the fan options on the sniper black, all kinds of different fan mounts all around, built in handles, but I dig silverstones filters and looks more. Might get the sniper as it is cheaper, I'm tired of waiting and 2010 might bring me better options anyway.

this will be my next case, my fourth silverstone in fact when the time arrives.

What do you do with them? Sell them or send them back or something?

Buy them, get sick of them (or grow a dislike for one reason or another) and sell them [H]ere. :D

I don't think I can even remember all of the cases I've gone through in the last 12 months ;)

Yeah you're a case or two higher than me and due to my lunacy I thought that would never happen. If Lian Li's were cheaper I think we'd both be in trouble. :D LOL

I think the Lian-Li Tyr x500 or x1000 is the case for me if I can work up the funds to pick it up.

Although if there were a few changes made to the Silverstone FT02 I would consider it.

Interesting case, pity they cheaped out by only making 1 bay have a sata hot swap backplane. Be interesting to see how much they charge for additional backplanes (if they even sell them seperately).

(...but I'm still going to wait for the egg)

What . . . the . . . F! The cheapest shipping option from NCIX US to me in California is FedEX Express Saver at. . . $68.21!!! As far as I know, these guys are located in the Pacific Northwest so it's just a short trip down the coast!

The shipping method the checkout defaulted to was FedEX Priority . . . at a whopping $147.66. Uh, no thanks.

Yeah, too many of these etailers are gouging on shipping. It's bad business to order the same product from 3 different places, using the same shipping service, and see such a drastic difference in price. Sure a place shipping from Florida to California is gonna cost more than a product being shipped within the same county or state, but I'm amazed that there are still etailers who advertise low prices, then rip customers off during checkout. Even newegg is merely average wrt shipping, especially considering how many warehouses they have spread around the USA.

I know it's all cool and trendy these days to include hot swap in a case a la Corsair 800d or Zalman GS1000 Pro, but most users do not use hot swap as evidenced by how few people run mobos/cards that support the feature. Check out the price difference between the Lian Li/Zalman/etc cases that have hot swap, and those missing the feature, it's usually $5-10 per bay. Silverstone made a good call by including a single hot swap to let customers know the part is available, if so desired, while the rest of us incur a minimal cost increase.

If you really need/want all 5 bays to work w/ hot swap, the part can be purchased for a very reasonable cost from newegg and other retailers. I'm much more pleased that Silverstone included a single SSD mount and would even have preferred a pair of these over hot swap, but that, too, is something only a minority of people would use.

My new case short list:

1. Silverstone FT02 Black Window Edition
2. Silverstone TJ11 Mythical Edition
3. CM Storm Sniper Mesh Black Interior Edition
4. Cooler Master 840 Black Version
5. Cooler Master "840" Mid Tower Semi-Mythical Edition
6. Corsair Obsidian 800D
7. Corsair Obsidian "800D" Mid Tower HAF Mythical Edition

Nothing else is on my radar. The Sniper has a few flaws like non removable filters, but man for the money you get one fine case with lots of fan options. My hopes are for a CM "840" mid tower, which I read is coming, but I personally want them to make it out of 100% 10mm steel. And I hope they keep/improve the high end filters. Corsair could make something like this or I could get creative with the 800D and add some intakes. Silverstones are still in there, but I'm leaning towards options that give me more airflow flexibility like the Cooler Masters. I do have high hopes for the TJ11 as well.

The CM Sniper is also mentioned as being exceptionally sturdy build wise - no doubt due to steel construction, attention to detail and smaller mid tower dimensions. That's what I need from my TJ11 Silverstone, and don't forget some nice air filters, above average 120mm airflow options, CPU cutout and black interior. Cases that lack the above are falling off any short list I make rapidly. The FT02 is close, but I would rather see a balls out TJ11.

I wonder when Microcenter will get these in?

No microcenters near my in Rochester, NY, but was considering going to one when I went to Co for Christmas. I have ben interested in the deals on i7 they have and would love to see the ft02 in person. I was just checking out their website 2 hours ago, as chance would have it. Let me know if you see it.

Just ordered up a CM Storm Sniper Black Edition, I needed something to fall back to between trying out these uber cases. It was cheap at $155 delivered with 8% Bing CashBack from TigerDirect. So I'm now officially out of this FT02 race, this move also gives me breathing time to wait for my perfect case to arrive. A TJ11, a mid tower CM840 or a mid tower 800D. While not as simple and sleek as say a FT02, I consider the Sniper to be nicer than most, esp the HAF Series in looks. The airflow options are insane. I can fit around 10 Gentle Typhoons in this rig without modding! It's like my rugged winter raincoat, now I just need a dressy one I like. Bring me a TJ11 next year please. Sans the door on the bays.

Hi All,

Just wanted to post an update on my build with parts from below and of course the FT02.

1. Top 120mm exhaust opening will not fit a 140mm fan. And honestly the 120mm Silverstone that came with it moves a fair amount of air and quiets down nicely when slowed down.

2. I also really like my upgraded 180mm fans, they do move a fair amount more air than stock and are still very quiet when turned down; however, at full tilt they make a little more of a wining sound but still not bad. This is an expensive upgrade however and may not be worth it to most. I do however recommend that you remove the fan covers as they restrict air movement too much.

3. The bad news but not surprising, I still am unable to cool the 3xGTX 275s when playing games. So I am going do some experimenting to try and find a solution to this problem. I am thinking about mounting a high speed fan in the window that I only turn on when gaming. I may start out with suggestions as others have pointed out like zip tie a fan to the side of the video cards first. I would love to hear any other ideas.

I still love the case, and when I am not gaming it not only looks fantastic but is dead quiet with 6 fans on medium speed. I am using a scythe 4 channel fan controller as well...looks great in the case and works well. I am using the server model that has automated control.

Ok, here is a run down of parts, and yes I "waste" a lot of money on this stuff, but I love it!

Motherboard = eVGA P55 Classified 200
Processor = Intel i7-860
Video cards = 3x eVGA GTX275s
Power supply = 1200 Watt Ultra X4
SSD = 160GB Intel X25-M G2
Hard Drives = 3x 1.5TB Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM drives in RAID 5
Memory (still on the way) = 8GB G.SKILL Ripjaws DDR3 2000
Upgraded 180mm fans to Silverstone FM-181ball bearing 500rpm - 1300rpm fans.
And new Noctua NH-D14 on the way.
Also going to replace the top fan with 140mm Noctua NF-P14 FLX - On the way too.

You will enjoy the case. I recently had one myself. I sold it because I just like switching cases, but I highly recommend the Sniper. I just got the Cosmos S but if the ATCS mid-tower is released, a TJ11 or Corsair mid-tower, I will be switching cases again.

This interests me greatly and I would greatly appreciate if you can elaborate -

-stock coolers or aftermarket?
-what temps are you getting and what are you wanting to have?

Reason I ask is now I'm running 2x 260 216 SC for F@h and if I can't keep the cards as cool as they run now (74c I believe with the stock coolers) then the FT02 just went out the window for me. :(

Goodluck with this Acheleus, the problem is there isnt enough space for the GPU fans to draw air between them. The only real solution will be to get some thin after market coolers for them all, that let air flow from bottom to the top of the case. Im not sure which after market coolers will work well in the Tri-SLI solution your trying to build.

Dual SLi with P55 MB would give you space between them as they are more spread apart. But then there are other limitations ;)

Hi All, I think I solved my 3XSLI cooling problem. I noticed that my video cards fans were not spinning up as my temps increased so I started looking around the Nvidia Control panel and found that the fans were on auto but would not go past 40%....what gives? Anyway, I changed to manual and put them at 100% and with that all three are staying under 70 degrees Celsius. I lowered the fans to 80% and now the three cards are ranging between 65 - 74. I want them to stay under 80 if I can. This is also with my 3 180mm fans blowing at high speed (1300 RPM) but the three video cards at 80% are far louder than those anyway.

Anyway I am thrilled with these results. I play games with headphones anyway so noise when gaming is not a problem.
