RESOLVED, Mods feel free to delete for me if you can 
Solution: I was just being TOO timid with applying any force. With just a little more force from behind, I was able to push the screws out easily without harm.

I can't believe I'm asking this, but I want to be sure I don't brute force something that has a simple solution....
I own the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103065) and need to take it off to install on a different motherboard.
I've taken the heatsink/fan off and am stuck with the "retention" bracket, if you pay. There are 4 screws that went into the motherboard with washers/nuts at the end. I've taken the nuts off easily, but I can't get the screws out.
My brute force method is to grab a wrench and just apply enough force until they come off. Is there anything I'm missing here? I'm assuming they're on so tight now cause of the tension from the HSF being installed for a few months... I remember them being super easy to install, but now I can't take them off.
