Hi guys. I've been thinking about getting a widescreen lcd monitor for a long time. Specifically the LG L204WT . I know that it has been here for a while, and I've read some of the thread on it, and I'm impressed, mostly.

But my question is about the resolution. It is 1680 x 1050. My current video card (bfg 6200oc) doesn't support this. But it supports 1600 x 1024, is close good enough? Or is this a bad idea?
I'm also considering getting an x800xt, and it seems to be even less able to suppost that resolution. This site lists the supported resolutions, and none of them are even close.

So, would my card be able to work the monitor properly?

Thanks guys :D

Are you positive the 6200 won't support 1680x1050? Of course I would not try to game at that res with the 6200 but it should be fine for a windows desktop..

You shouldn't have to support a specific resolution. As long as the card can output a resolution that exceeds the dimensions it should be able to display it just fine. Gaming performance at native resolution would likely be aweful however.

The resolution probably doesn't show up cause you need to install the monitor drivers. I have an x800xl card and after installing the monitor driver, the card set the res automatically to 1680X1050.

Ah fantastic. Thats exactly what I was hoping to hear. I'm thinking of keeping my 17" CRT for gaming, and the LG for desktop/movies/less strenuous games.
@joemama, no I'm not positive it doesn't support it, I was just going by the list it gave under resolutions. And what xenogears points out about drivers could definitely be the problem.

@All, Thanks alot :D

Let's make a petition for ATI to add the custom resolution option in their driver/registry settings, like Nvidia did.

Not all of us want to rely on Powerstrip, especially since that program is no longer freeware.

There are some problems with Nvidia's custom resolution feature, though. For example, on my 24" Dell 2405FPW LCD, if I try to add 1600x1000 or 1680x1050, the aspect ratio is messed up. Powerstrip maintains the 1:1 aspect ratio correctly. The main reason Nvidia messes it up is because it maintains a 1920x1200 "back-end active" resolution, and then converts it to say, 1680x1050. The same goes for 1280x800--but even worse since the 5:4 1280x1024 resolution is used as "back-end active".

I'll be posting more on that in the Dell 2405FPW thread.

On my 24" Sony GDM-FW900 CRT, I can use 2458x1536 resolution through Powerstrip, but it is about impossible to do that with Nvidia cards. Only with ATI drivers is that allowed, as it is. (Note: Powerstrip perhaps then announces it as 2456x1536 afterwards. There are a few 'here-and-then' indications that it worked using Nivida cards, reported as 2456x1536).

More on that in the Sony 24" thread. http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=952788&page=106&pp=20
