I run 1024*738 resolution on my 17" monitor. Anything under that is hard to see. I was wondering if I run a larger resolution like 1280*1024(or w/e it is) in games will everyhting get smaller or would the quality increase. Currently I run 1024*738 both for games and desktop.

Well the only thing that will get smaller in games is the HUD and text. The rest of the game will simply get sharper. Unless the HUD is programmed to scale up in size with the resolution.
