1. If I output video or a game from a laptop (using HDMI or HDMI to DVI) to a larger screen monitor, say, a 24" do I lose any noticeable FPS in the process?

2. Most PS3 games are rendered at 720P or 900P? What happens if I buy a monitor that's 1680*1050? Does it just stretch from 900P? (1440*900).

3. Given the last question, would you buy a 20"-22" monitor that's 1440*900 or 1680*1050? It will be used for both a PS3 & Gaming Laptop Output, both are within my price range.

4. Are there any good DVI to 2 HDMI splitter switches? Like mechanical or wirelesses ones where I don't have to flick a switch between my PS3 and Laptop? I'd prefer to do this from the couch while they're both plugged in. Dual DVI monitors are too expensive at the moment, so I'll flick a box it if I have to or simply pull one or the other out. But that gets cumbersome.

Thanks.

1 - fps is relative to many things... that being said . pushing more pixels is going to cause more strain and lower your fps - 1920x1200 is twice as demanding as 1280x720

2 - most ps3 games bounce around the 720p ballpark / the console has an internal scaler which can output anything from standard def clear up to 1080p - so in the settings of the console / you set it to the native resolution of your monitor and the video processing and scaling does the rest

3 - both resolutions are 16:9 that being said why not go with the large display with the higher resolution? [22" 1680x1050]

4 - i have no idea, ive never needed to switch dvi before... id suggest a google search

dual DVI monitors too expensive? how much do you have to spend, like $50?

honestly just get a monitor with the inputs you need

regarding the PS3, yeah, it handles scaling by itself, so don't worry there
laptop wise, yes, larger resolution (not always larger size) will increase the demand on your processing hardware, it doesn't scale in a linear fashion (meaning that, just because you have twice as many pixels, doesn't mean you have half as much performance)

1) screen size doesnt matter, resolution does.
If you change "rendering" to a higher resolution it will run slower.

2) The monitor will scale if it supports scaling but not all are good at it, check before purchasing.
If not, tell the console to scale.

3) Whichever native res you want to use the most. ie consider the res you will game from the laptop.
Scaling doesnt always look very good, running at native res does.

4) yes there are plenty of HDMI switches, check out google or get a monitor with one built in.
