I have the eVGA 256 mb 6800 GT on order which is about to enhance my gaming experience (I hope) allowing me to play at higher resolutions. However there is something I am a little unsure of:

If my normal windows screen resolution is set at 1024 x 768 (which I find to be the most useable resolution for word processing and web surfing) can I independently set a game's screen resolution to a higher setting - such as 1280 x 1024 and see any difference?

Basically - do they have to be the same? - will I have to reset my screen resolution prior to starting a game and then reset it when I am done?

Thanks!

Yes in game resolution doesn't affect your windows resolution. You can have 640x480 on desktop and 1600x1200 in game if you want too. When you quit game, it fixes itself to original resolution.

The resolutions in 3d are independent of your desktop resolution, so yes you can have a different resolution in your games without messing with your desktop settings.
