Resolution issues

So my friend was trying to set up a cheap Dell sff as an htpc and did something to the resolution that caused his primary monitor to stop working because of "incompatible input" or something along those lines. Ive gotten into safe mode and that all works but if I reboot normally the screen goes black at the log in screen with the same message. Is there any easy way to fix this?

Log into Safe Mode and do a Windows Restore. Hopefully that will fix any changes he made to make this problem relevant.

Or Remote desktop to the machine and change it. I suggest logmein of course.
